chapter one
① The chapters one to three, have the kanji characters, 天気 - meaning tenki/weather and all titles are relating to weathers such as rainy, windy, and sunny.
② The towering figure of modernized building to his vision is that he is overwhelmed by the city. It's a foreign culture and the pressure lies within the fact that it was him who sees them and not you who dreamed of it in the first place.
③ The rain is interpreted as Kenji's repressed grief for you. Not only does it remind him of how you died on the night of the storm, it is also because he hates how the skies mirror his heart and how it was crying for him since he cannot physically do so. That's why the phrase: 'the rain grew louder as it showers the city with their mighty cry' exists for he is lamenting about the fact that he reached the city before you did.
④ "You knew how to swim but you were never taught to climb. Maybe that's why you fell that day. The land took the opportunity to drown you out with its dirty souls." It's an obvious foreshadowing on how you died. But there's more into it. The reader was buried alive and of course, since you don't know how to climb, you never managed to get yourself out of it because what do you do when you're climbing a tree? Hands that are reaching above, yes.
⑤ Since you can talk to the spirits, Kenji thinks that the soil purposely killed you because it buried you alive. The 'undefeated by the rain' symbol is here. Since the rain is often semantically related to emotions, particularly sadness due to its spiritual connection to water; and the earth/soil can be interpreted with its connection to home and life (because soil is what gives life to seeds). Now, hold on, let me cook—reader is incredibly sad that day, right? But they still chose to protect the village/home and grounded (heh) themselves to think clearly. They never lost themselves to their emotions but they did sacrifice themselves for the sake of lives that are at stake that night.
chapter two
① So have you read the Kenji's birthday special chapter? The reader stated: They just said that those who are born without the ability to communicate to the spirits, will hear them when they're nearing their death and those who have the ability however, will not hear the spirits' voices. That's just a story in our village though.
Now, I want you to remember the second chapter where the you predicted a storm is coming long before the incident have happen. This might be one of your job in the village but since you know that a stormy night will be the cause of your death, it's a foreshadowing of your impending doom. The spirits told you (a person who has the ability to talk to them) about it, it simply means your death is coming but not nearing yet.
② Kenji mentioned the trip you have with them. The one when you are looking at the flock of birds freely flying to their destination. Not only does it symbolizes freedom but a flock of birds is spiritually connected to progress and abundance. But since they are flying higher and away from you, it's basically saying that your dream will never come true and is out of reach.
