"Happy birthday, Kenji-kun!" Several people have gathered today to hangout and celebrate the boy's birthday. Kenji's eyes light up. He just got down from the office with you, not knowing it was a part of your little surprise. You managed to ask your co-workers to cooperate on this mini celebration.

In the village of Ihatovo, when someone celebrates their birthday, it is also everyone's birthday*. The natives believe that on someone's day of birth, it is always a great day to share the joy and blessing of one's life. It is also a reminder that on your day of birth, there will always be gratitude for your existence. This tradition is known by the agency and so, their gifts are perfectly aligned to you and Kenji's taste. Kenji does acknowledge his birthday as yours as well. He even tells everyone that you are his twin soul. (*this is not canon information! this is created for readers who share the same birthday as him!)

Tanizaki Naomi stood up first from her spot, her arm extended in front of her older brother Juniichiro, in which he handed his sister's item towards the boy, giving him a little present. "Here! Onii-sama and I bought you some beginner's activity books and reading materials! You can practice your handwriting and reading with [First Name], too! You all are learning fast so it wouldn't hurt to advance!"

"Wow! Thank you so much, Naomi-chan, Tanizaki-san!" Kenji expressed his genuine gratitude. You also thanked the siblings. Birthday presents, at least in city culture, were supposed to be for one person only, but both of you were simply elated on the fact that an item can be shared with each other. It was only a few months since the Agency took you in and the city life is so massive that it gave the both of you a huge culture shock. None of you know how to read and write so when Naomi presented herself to be the tutor, you were thrilled to learn the Japanese characters with Kenji.

"And you," Ranpo called out to you and Kenji, "Don't need a gift from me."

Despite how entitled he sounds, it was a reasonable one. He was the one who tracked down your father's whereabouts and with his talent, Kenji managed to put your mother's worries and anger into rest. It's really a wonder how this particular senior was able to discover them with the case over a decade.

"Hm, about mine..." Yosano's voice fell into thinking. "I wasn't sure what to give you so I haven't bought any. But I figured that maybe you can get a free call-a-friend-pass companion whenever I go shopping and have other people accompany me." Honestly, that one was a jackpot gift considering that you once accompanied the doctor to a mall and ended up being loaded. Kenji doesn't mind the heaviness of the items themselves, but he wouldn't admit that Yosano was so scarily happy when she's shopping; her impatience is a diffusive bomb. Even Nakajima Atsushi knew about it.

Kunikida was the next person to give a gift. Although this one is shaped into a small rectangle card. You take a peek over Kenji's side, and barely make out a translation from the complex kanjis shown in the gift card but your eyes are fixated on the soba and steak pictures.
