Arder's POV

As we entered the chorus room, Melanie, Millie and I were instantly surrounded by our extended group of friends in the theater department. We broke through the crowd and casually chatted with some nearby friends.

CK, the affectionate nickname we had given our chorus teacher, clapped his hands. "Alright!" He yelled over all of us. "Sort yourselves into your voice parts! Then we'll place you! Basses by the piano! Altos in the top right corner of the riser! Tenors in the middle of the riser! Sopranos in the top left riser!"

I quickly moved to the group of tenors. I chatted aimlessly among the group as CK began sorting the bases, and I decided to turn and watch. I saw the usual people in the section, waving at a friend of mine, and he waved back excitedly. My eyes drifted over them as they were sorted, one by one, into a seat.

A new person to the chorus caught my attention. I tilted my head slightly to the side as I began to study him. He had pin straight, brown hair that reached just below his shoulders. He had pale skin, green eyes, and stood probably about 6'2. He was built like a stick. He wore a three-quarter sleeve shirt, with a band design in the center, and black skinny jeans.

I blinked, trying to remember if he was in chorus last year.

"Valerian?" I heard CK call. The new boy picked his head up.

"Huh." I whispered underneath my breath. "Valerian."

The boy was sat down on the very edge of the bass section, on the top riser.

I quickly turned my attention to CK, ready and alert. "Arder!" CK said.

I waved and smiled at him. He offered a small smile back, and pointed to the chair next to Valerian's. I went and sat by it, and Valerian handed me the bright green roll of duct tape and a sharpie.

"Write your last name on it and duct tape it to the chair." He said, a slight smile being offered to me.

I wrote my last name, Walker, and stuck the tape to the front of the chair before leaning back into it and handing off the tape. I paid little attention to Valerian as the entire period was spent seating and placing people. I knew that was how the first day usually went, but it still didn't mean it wasn't boring. The bell rang for lunch, and I bolted towards the door, my stomach growling in anticipation.

"Arder!" Melanie yelled after me. "Slow down, goddamn!"

"FOOD!" I yelled back at her, knocking into someone. I stopped dead in my tracks. "I'm so sorry!" I said, turning around to see who I had collided with.

"It's alright," Valerian replied, with an expressionless face.

"I'm Arder, I'm so sorry again," I said, for politeness sake. I turned and ran back down the hall. "AND I'M SO FUCKING HUNGRY I'VE GOTTA GO!" I yelled over my shoulder.

I slid into the lunch line just before it became super long, grabbed my food, and sat down next to Emery at the lunch table she and Kya had already claimed.

Emery smiled a proud smile at me at the sight of my food. "I'm so glad you're eating." She whispered so no one else could hear.

"Arder, what the fuck?" Melanie said, sitting next to me as Millie sat across from her. "Are you going to do that every day?"
