Chapter 4
Arder's POV
I dropped my stuff off in the locker room very quickly, making sure not to make eye contact with anyone as I walked out to line up for attendance.
I waved to my teacher, and then went to sit against the wall. Attendance could take a while. I decided to pass the time to just stare at the wall and create a storyline in my head. Suddenly, a person was approaching me and I glanced upwards to make sure it wasn't some creep.
It wasn't a creep. It was in fact a person I would have liked to see very much.
"Casper?" I asked as he smiled down at me.
"Hey," He said, motioning to the spot on my right. "Can I sit, or?"
"Of course of course!" I quickly said, patting the ground. "What's up?" I said, lowering my headphones.
"Eh, not much," Casper said. "Most of my required classes are in the morning, so I just got to a few of my chosen classes around 6th period."
"Don't you have a lunch?" I asked.
"Nope!" Casper said cheerfully, "I skipped a lunch to take more classes."
"So what do you take?" I asked him.
"Mostly engineering classes, but I really enjoy chemistry." Casper said excitedly. "I'm excited for automotive engineering 9th period-"
Casper was abruptly cut off as a bag slammed down next to us, and someone dropped to the floor to sit next to me on my other side. Casper rapidly covered his ears and seemed to shrink within himself. I put a hand on his shoulder, then turned to look at the person who had done that.
"Oh, Valerian." I said, surprised. "I didn't know you were in this class too."
"Yeah." He said, "I was behind you when you left tech theater."
"Ohhhh." I replied. "That makes sense."
"Who are you?" Casper said quickly, with a slightly harsh tone underneath his words.
"Valerian." Valerian replied, his eyes flicking over to Casper before looking straight ahead again.
"Are you his..." Casper trailed off, looking at Valerian.
"No! Nope!" I said, very quickly. "He's not."
Valerian glanced over at me. "I'm not." He sighed.
I raised an eyebrow at that, but I continued on. "Valerian, this is Casper. He's my friend." I said.
"I'm your friend?" Casper broke out into a wide, goofy smile.
"You're my friend." I smiled right back, feeling my face start to heat up. I fought that feeling away.
"Alright! Class!" One of the teachers yelled. "Outside! Your two options are walking the track or kickball!"
"I'm walking today." I decided aloud.
"I'll come along." Casper said. "To keep you company."
"I'm coming too." Valerian said quickly. "I'm not the best at kickball."
"Okay..." I said, kind of confused, as we walked out to the track.
Casper and I chatted about our project as Valerian stayed silent, staring ahead as we circled the track. He seemed like a pretty quiet dude, but I was also curious about him. I shrugged the thoughts off as we ended up going back to the school.
