Two Months Later
Aidan laid on Daiichi's lap, staring at the sky. The wound was still open, no one could talk about Thomas without Aidan getting angry. Ian and Daiichi both kept Aidan calm. The boss had removed Aidan and Ian from any assignments for now, since they were closer to Thomas.
Aidan needed to get out, so he decided to spend his time with Daiichi. It was a good idea at first, but now he was having doubts. Even though Daiichi's presence was calming to him, and the way Daiichi's hands ran through his hair eased his mind, he had been thinking a lot.
"What's on your mind Aidan?" Daiichi asked, and Aidan, meets Daiichi's worried eyes.
"It's nothing."
"It's something, talk to me. We are dating, you can vent to me."
"You aren't going to like what I have to say." Aidan admits. Daiichi tensed slightly but leaned down pressing a small kiss to Aidan's lips.
"I don't care, please talk to me."
"I think we should break up."
Daiichi froze, he stared at Aidan confused. He could feel his heart breaking.
"What? Are you serious? Why? Do you not love me anymore?" Daiichi asked and watched as Aidan slowly sat up. Aidan leaned against his knee, his arm propping his head up.
"Of course I love you still, that's why I think we should break up. I mean, I don't want to lose you because I am part of the RB. Ian didn't kill Orlando, and that means he can pull this stunt again. If he does, if I lose you, I don't think I can bare it. I lost Thomas already, and I don't want you to get hurt because I failed to protect you."
"Aidan, are you still blaming yourself? Please, don't break up with me. I am okay with this dangerous part of your life. I promise to be more careful and mindful," Daiichi grabbed Aidan's shoulder, desperately.
"Daiichi,"
"No, Aidan listen to me," Daiichi got in front of Aidan, and cupped his face. "You are the reason I am safe now. I need you; I love you."
"I love you too Daiichi, but in this line of work emotions, feelings... they get in the way. If something happens, and I can't protect you because I became weak, I will never forgive myself. I have been alone my entire life, up until I met Ian and Thomas, and you are the first relationship, not only the first but one that I actually feared losing. You have to understand Daiichi, if Orlando realizes we aren't together, he will leave you alone," Aidan explained.
He leaned in, and pressed his lips to Daiichi, who had tears filling his eyes.
"Aidan, please just think about this." He mumbled against Aidan's lips.
Aidan wiped his tears gently and leaned his forehead again.
"I have, I kept tossing the idea away for the last two months because I couldn't bring myself to break up with you. But no matter how I think about it, it's selfish of me. Whether I let you go or keep you it would make me selfish. But I rather be selfish, and you be safe, then be selfish and put your life in danger."
Daiichi looked down, biting his lip. He didn't want this, but he knew he couldn't change Aidan's mind once it was made up.
"Promise me one thing, Aidan."
"Anything for you," Aidan's voice was soft. The emotions were filling him, because deep down he didn't want to leave Daiichi.
"When we meet up in the future, you will still love me. Because I will love you."
"I promise, you are the only person I want to spend the rest of my life with. If I get out of this work, I promise to seek you out."
Daiichi gave Aidan a very sad smile, he cupped Aidan's face, and they shared another kiss. The kiss was emotional, passionate, and when they parted, they were both panting. Daiichi wiped his eyes before slowly standing up. Aidan stood up as well, they were still holding hands.
"Aidan, I guess I will see you around. Thank you for everything. I haven't been this happy before I met you." Daiichi turned around, getting ready to leave, but Aidan grabbed his hand gently.
"I feel the same way, you actually made me feel like I was alive. My grandfather had always told me emotions weren't necessary, and being a genius, I had neglected my emotions in favor of being rational so I could think clearly. Because of you, I learned to love. Thank you, Daiichi."
Daiichi smiled and let Aidan's hand go, before turning around to leave. He sighed softly and decided to head back to the base. His heart was heavy, but it needed to be done. It was the only way to protect Daiichi.
He was alone... again, well he still had Ian, but Ian hadn't escaped his room much since Thomas passing.
When he arrived, he went to his bedroom, only to see Ian sitting in his chair.
"Seriously? Breaking into my room, when I am gone?" Aidan asked, and Ian shrugged.
"Figured it would be like old times, how was the date with Daiichi?"
"We broke up."
"Wait what?" Ian stood up, shocked and walked over to Aidan.
"What do you mean, you broke up? You two were like head over heels, did you guys argue or something?"
"No, on the contrary, we broke up on good terms, though I still hurt him."
"Why?"
"It's the only way I can protect him," Aidan removed his shoes and fell back on the bed.
"Aidan, you shouldn't have. He brings you happiness, and you need that in this field."
"I wouldn't forgive myself if something happens to him or you for that matter, I don't want to lose anyone else. And my emotions running wild was not going to help if it came down to it."
Ian sighed softly, but he understood. Ian sat beside Aidan.
