Weeks passed and passed, Vanitas and Noé solved some curse bearers problems and enjoyed their life at the Hotel Chou-Chou.
But Noé had a problem. He couldn't get off his mind something.
Vanitas' blood.
During these weeks, while they were fighting curse bearers Vanitas got injured a couple of times.
One day, when they got back at the hotel, Vanitas just sat on his bed because he was tired from their mission. His clothes still had some blood stains, but he didn't have the strength to change because he was exhausted.
The result was a distressed Noé trying to hold back his vampire urges. Because yes, he could smell Vanitas' blood even if it was just on his clothes, and his blood had an incredible smell. They had a conversation about it before, back when they returned from Gevaudant, and Noé still remembers very clearly the look on Vanitas' face. Let's just say it was enough to never make him think about it again.
Until today.
Noé was struggling not to yell at Vanitas to go get changed, he knew he'd piss him off. But he also didn't want anything to happen, especially now that the human had started to trust him.
"Oi, Noè?"
He didn't realize, but Vanitas had been looking at him for quite some time while he was lost in his thoughts.
"Are you alright..?" Vanitas seemed genuinely worried."Huh? Oh- Yea no I was just...zoning out..." Noé muttered.
Vanitas raised an eyebrow.
"You sure..? You don't seem very well...""Y..yes! Yes I'm fine" Noé noticed that Vanitas had blood on his arm.
"Oh god, Vanitas your arm!" The blood's scent seemed to get more intense each time he looked at the wound, to the point where Noé had to cover half his face with his hand."Uh? Oh... yeah that bastard had some scissors. Hold on why are you covering your-" Vanitas didn't even finish his sentence when he realized, his body stiffened and a cold expression covered his face.
"Archiviste. I believe we've already talked about this."He rarely called Noé by his last name, and when he did it was never a good sign. Noé felt even more bad than he was already feeling.
"I know. I'm sorry I know I shouldn't react like this but I can't help it...your blood smells heavenly!" Noé's cheeks acquired a little red tint, he was ashamed. Again.
"Noé. Know your limits. Even if I wouldn't mind you to have a taste of my blood I can't."
Vanitas locked eyes with him."Wait, you...hold on what did you just say?!?" He was shocked. Did Vanitas just say he wasn't against him having a taste of his blood??
"Don't be a fool, you heard that right. Just to be clear, I'd do it just to make you shut up about it, alright? Don't imagine things." Vanitas looked away, he couldn't believe what had just left his mouth.
Noé got a hang of himself, he knew how Vanitas was. He should have not had such high expectations.
"...got it. But not even a little bit? Like from your clothes? Not even that?"Vanitas thought for a moment.
"Is there a difference if you drink it from there..?""Yes, of course. Or well, from my previous experiences, there is some difference. If I drink it directly from someone's vein I have access to all of that person's memories, even the darkest and most obscure ones. If I lick it from clothes or wounds I suppose I can't see much or there's less chance to see their past." Noé explained, making sure the human could understand how his powers worked.
"I see. So, basically...the more superficial is the source, the more recent are the memories you can see, correct?"
Noé nodded. Vanitas reflected on these new information before speaking again.
"I...I suppose you could try the blood left on my clothes...if you're really that desperate..." Vanitas side-eyed him, causing the vampire to redden.
"REALLY?? Wait, but it's already dried now" Noé looked a bit disappointed.
"And who said I'd let you do that today, huh? Besides, there's a wound that still needs healing" Vanitas grinned at him, he was clearly giving him a chance to drink his blood from the wound, but all he got from the naive vampire was just him apologising and worrying about his arm. It made him laugh because he was such an idiot at times. Noé followed his laugh, confused by what the human really meant by that.
"Okay, but now seriously could you please go wash and change yourself into clean clothes?" Noé begged him, he really was worried after all those fights that left him injured.
"You want to help me with that, Noé?" Vanitas loved to mess with him, his reactions were priceless.
"..." "!?!?" Noé took a while to realize, but when he did he became an absolute mess. And yet it wasn't the first time it happened, he should be used to it by now.
Vanitas just started laughing loudly, holding his stomach even.
"Don't laugh at me, Vanitas!!"
"HAHAHAHAH Sorry Noè but I just can't with your reactions"
Noé felt the urge to punch the human, but his kind heart reminded him that even though he was an annoying little rat with incredibly gorgeous blue eyes and a tempting blood, he was his "partner in crime", as Vanitas called him the first time they met. He shall not hurt him right after a deadly battle.
And he also still needed to investigate more on his book, to fulfill his Teacher's request.
That was the only reason he was still there, helping him with his "revenge".
Right?
