Chapter 9: life lessons Continuation from last chapter
"Bey...I know you feel like what happened back there was your fault...but I can promise you that it's not." Shawn spoke softly as he grabbed my hard pulling up to a red light.
"Oh...I know that! I just got too comfortable." I spoke
"Whatchu mean?" He asked as the light turned green.
I shrugged my shoulders and began speaking. "I don't know..sometimes we forget that we're living in a white man world...the problems and struggles that we have to deal with can slip ours minds.." I started but took a pause to wipe my tears.
"We forget how we're really looked at...I mean look at us, beautiful houses, beautiful cars, amazing careers, a lot of zero's in our accounts. We forget that we're still nothing but profit to us.." I spoke and after that nothing else was said until we pulled up to raising Cane's.
"Look." He sighed as his finger grasped my chin and pulled my face towards his.
"I know what you mean Bey, and I understand how you feel. But we can't let that define us babygirl. There is nothing wrong with being comfortable in our lives and what they have come to." I spoke before kissing my forehead and hopping out.
I sighed wiping my tears one last time before he came and opened my door. He helped me out his big ass truck.
We walked into the restaurant and told me to go find a table to sit at. It was pretty empty in here which I'm very glad cause I was still a bit emotional from the whole thing. I easily found a seat in the corner with no windows and opted to sit here.
Shawn eventually came over to the table with our food.
"You didn't wanna sit by a window?" He asked
"No not today." I answered softly and he nodded his head. He began setting the table with the food and sat down as I began saying grace.
"You know my momma always used to say "You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated."" I sighed as he listened attentively.
"She seems very inspirational..."
"She was...her and my dad died when I was 9 years old..." I spoke and he gasped
"Bey I'm so sorry." He spoke coming on my side of the table and hugging me and I laughed
"It's ok Shawn, I'm pretty much over it...I just missed them at this moment." I told him as I hugged him back.
"Maybe one day you can take me to meet them." He spoke
"Take you to their grave?" I asked hopeful
"Of course Bey! I would love to meet them." He told me and I smiled at him before laying my head on his shoulder. Janie never wanted to meet them, he always said it was creepy for me to want to spend time in a cemetery if it wasn't for a funeral.
We finished our food laughing and talking together, once we were done we threw away our trash and headed back to his truck. Once we got settled in, he pulled off heading to his place, where we would be taking a nap before heading back out to catch a movie.
Soon he pulled into his driveway and parked. We hopped out going to the door, once he unlocked the door I walked in before him being greeted by Carry.

"Hi puppy! Hi girl!" I said as I rubbed her fur before picking her up. She was jumping around wagging her tail and barking.
"I missed you too!" I said as she placed her pad on my shoulder trying to give me a hug. She licked my nose, before reaching out to Shawn. I passed Cary to him and walked further into the house so Shawn can close and lock the door.
Eventually she jumped down and ran off and we walked further into the house.
"I forgot to mention I got another dog." He spoke as a big ass dog started running towards me.

"Aweee hi!" I gasped and kneeled down so the dog can sniff me.
"She's a girl, her name is London." He spoke up.
Once she licked me I petted her and rubbed her fur too.
"Hi London! You're so pretty girl!" She wagged her tail and jumped around at me wanting to play. I giggled and played with her for a bit until she got tired.
"So you weren't scared?"
"What? No! I love dogs!" I smiled
"So why don't you have one?"
"Cuz Jamie is scared of them and since we broke up I haven't had the time to go get a puppy." I shrugged and he nodded his head.
"Do you want one?"
"Yea." I shrugged "I'll get one eventually."
He nodded his head as I went up the steps and hopped in the shower.
