Dripping rain onto the stone he exited the mouth of the cave covered in scarlet red. Staring down at his hand full of scratches and bruises he held it closed tightly.
As he looked up a figure illuminated by lightning in the middle of a grassy field was waiting for him. Gritting his teeth in sadness and betrayal he stepped forward sinking into the muddy grass.
The figure covered in shadow began to open his mouth.
"You betrayer!" He screamed to the pretender over the sound of thunder. "Look what I was made to do!" Dripping blood down his fingers and chin it felt as if he'd shed tears with any more yelling.
The man stood there for a moment motionless. His mouth then shut and he took a bow of respect. Angered to the point of blindness he drew his worn sword and charged.
Deflection after deflection his blade was knocked to the side. One obvious strike and he was split open and then tossed to the ground. Grass and weeds stuck to his face as he clambered to his feet and rushed him again. Swipe after stab not an attack landed.
His opponent was emotionless in his movements while he was full of passion behind each strike. "This will be your downfall, your awakening to reality!" Blood rushed from cuts in his muscles as he landed his first hit. The moment then slowed as he felt the handle of his opponent's weapon slam down onto his neck.
His vision went black momentarily and he fell into the mud on his knees. Coming from behind him he swiped in the general direction but cut only the heads off leaves.
Now from the front, he held back a strike that would have split him in half. Angling diagonally his blade swiped past the other in a lock and passed into his opponent's stomach. Finally, some semblance of accomplishment washed over him until he realized he had dropped his blade for seemingly no reason.
Looking down he then noticed a deep slash through a major muscle making his arm useless. Now another cut quickly formed on the side of his neck and one down his chest.
Bringing his battered hand to hold the wound just below his head he looked up with disappointment.
"You were deceived", a cold voice breathed to him from the shadowy man.
Deceived?
Before he had time to think anymore his vision was rolling across the mud looking back at the cave entrance with mountains in the background. Everything felt strange and disconnected as his eyes remained open and out of control.
With the few seconds of thought left he watched as the man made his way towards the cave.
Yes, see what was done, feel the same regret I do. Then he stopped suddenly and turned away. Heading out of his vision he panicked.
Words attempted to come out, but the muscles were severed and only internal shouting started. No, no, no you must suffer the same as me don't you dare turn around! Don't you walk away like what I did doesn't matter to you! Stop acting like you're above all of this!
As another second ticked by his thoughts and emotions appeared less and less. Emptied of him were those horrible things.
Stuck staring at where he came from, at what he did forever. What an existence it was that he shared alone for he was betrayed.
