Stealthily they slid behind brick buildings the same color as the ground below them.
Holding his weapon flashlight down towards the cool sands he looked up at his team. Six of them spread around in the back alleys of a smaller city.
"This makes no sense. Where's their armories, food stocks, or command station?" The layout of every building was poorly planned and haphazardly placed with less-than-ideal materials being the basis for everything.
Everything was so out of the ordinary that it threw their whole plan out the window. "We make a new plan. Spread out around the city and find any intel of value then rendezvous in an hour," he ordered.
Nodding to him the first of them stepped around the corner into a splatter of blood.
"Iatas!" a harsh voice roared. The head of their comrade was flung through the air only falling to the ground after hitting a wall. Stumbling back into view the body slumped over motionless and with it a monster twice as tall.
Holding his breath he was speechless. Its scales gleamed blue in their light along with its massive spear and shining grin full of sharp teeth. Not a moment later their weapons went off into the creature which did not flinch.
Through another of them, its spear tip impaled and to another after it slammed into.
Seconds later from behind him another of his team flew through the air already dead and landing in front of him. Checking backward a creature almost the exact same but with sparkling orange instead stood.
Slashed from both sides his limbs were severed and he was stabbed through the chest, left limp spilling blood along the sand. In his last few seconds, he heard the faint buzzing of his radio.
"Town no longer safe, multiple contacts have closed in, retreat if pos~" before it was crushed into his chest by the foot of a beast and his vision went black.
