In a daze behind tears, she reached over to put a hand on her throbbing leg.

Charred and scorched flesh exposing open blood vessels on the outer side felt numb to everything. Ripples in her once smooth skin formed causing cracks of heat to dig in deeper. The smell of searing human flesh was mixed in with ash as she crawled slowly away from wooden buildings caught alight.

As she reached a small stream a crack and snap shot around with a crash of a burning wooden beam next to her.

Instantly her hand was caught by the blaze forming small ripples turned bubbles across her skin. With a jolt, she pulled away and dug her hand into the water. Instant pain accompanied the cold feeling as she held back fierce screams. She hardly had any breath left to make a sound. She could barely breathe in through toxic air and jolts of burns.

Her vision was blurry and weak. Feeling was numb in some places it shouldn't and unbearable in others. One ear was singed shut while the other dug into the dirt which covered her from head to toe. Tiny pieces of once long flowing vibrant fabric clung to random areas not connected to anything other than skin.

With dwindling strength, she managed to turn over onto her back and look up. Past clouds, stars glimmered in and out of focus until the tiny white dots weren't even visible.

Looking back from where she came, vague silhouettes of dark figures holding foreign weapons were made obvious through tall flames. In her last moments of consciousness, she blinked and they were gone, vanished, or perhaps her vision was burned beyond repair and they were still there standing proud.

At that last moment before her eyes finally closed she saw a strange man. Covered by beige cloth and see-through shards, he held out a blurry pointer finger, then tapped her forehead lightly.

Everything fell black and in her mind, the image of a dark crimson flame sparked to life.

When her eyes opened again she felt even hotter than before. Heat from within her emanated outwards instead of the opposite. Feeling was restored to all places and without pain. From where scorches were left, only scares remained. Now the tiny bits of clothing were gone in the wind and she was completely nude out in the open. Dark ash from large mounds flaked across her skin.

Her mind was blank and uncertain. She couldn't make sense of anything that happened. It was an empty feeling which resided across her emotions. If her emotions could happily speak before, now they were mute without a desire to express. What had happened before she didn't know and how she was saved she couldn't understand, but she was given a second chance and she'd figure out what to do with it.
