"Say it. I'm doomed." Ron sighed inspecting his broken wand before looking towards Harry.

"You're doomed." Harry said with a smile, pausing his study.

Ron's wand had tape wrapped around it but it didn't stop it from looking more than a broken twig. Y/N plopped down next to Hermione who sat opposite the two, nearly shaking the table with his overly sized book.

"Perhaps you weren't cut out to be a wizard." Y/N teased, earning himself a scowl from Ron.

"Very funny." Ron rolled his eyes before turning back to add more tape to his wand.

It wasn't out of the ordinary anymore for Y/N to spend most of his study time at the Gryffindor table. That's where Hermione was after all, and what better way to learn more about your rival than to see the way they do things? Besides, Harry was there and Y/N had considered Harry his closest friend. Y/N was practically accepted by the Gryffindor's at that point, being one of the most popular boys of his year. Though his behavior was far from perfect, with his occasional Muggle-born and Weasley teasing, it was not nearly as bad as Draco.

"Hi, Harry!" A small boy came up behind Y/N, flashing his camera at Harry.

"I'm Colin Creevey! I'm in Gryffindor too!"

He was very short for his age, a first-year. It made Y/N almost feel a sense of responsibility over him. Almost. But then again, he was Y/N Malfoy and caring for people other than family was not something in their blood. Friends were an exception.

"Hi, Colin. Nice to meet you." Harry gave a meek wave and a smile.

Y/N couldn't comprehend how Harry could be so kind and warm yet so sassy at times. He would have shined in Slytherin.

"Ron, is that your owl?" A Gryffindor named Dean raised a brow upon hearing a loud screech.

It didn't take long for the owl to come into view, flying through the very roof of the Great Hall before diving right down into a bowl of chips that sat on their table. The chips spilled everywhere and the owl tumbled across the table a bit. Luckily, Y/N managed to lift his book up before it could get caught as collateral.

"Should've dodged." Y/N snickered upon seeing Hermione staring at her chip covered book.

Y/N reached up to brush a few chips off of Hermione's curly locks. If it were in there any longer, it would have been lost forever with how bushy her hair was. Perhaps he would've liked to see that scene. Now, Hermione was thankful for that, yes, but that didn't stop the groan that came from her mouth and the roll of her eyes as she brushed off the chips from her ancient-looking book. She loved reading old books, history.

"Bloody bird's a menace." Ron complained before reaching across the table, grabbing a letter out of the owl's beak.

"Oh, no!"

"Look, everyone! Weasley's got himself a Howler!" Seamus shouted out for the whole hall to hear.

Now everyone stared at Ron, waiting for him to open it as they laughed. Even Y/N was not an exception to this, he watched with amusement. No doubt, his family must've heard of the adventure Harry and Ron had gone on to get to Hogwarts.

"Go on, Ron. I ignored one from my gran once. It was horrible!" The chubby kid, Neville, recalled as he shivered from the memory.

Ron took his time with opening the envelope, his fingers shaking with every slight move. As soon as the white of the parchment inside showed, a voice echoed throughout the room.

"RONALD WEASLEY!!!"

After recognizing the voice, Y/N knew he was right. It was Ron's mother. He grabbed a few chips from an untouched bowl, eating as he watched the scene unfold. Ron's face was full of complete fear, it could be compared to the face he made when struggling against the Devil's Snare last year. Speaking of, hopefully they'd have a quiet year this year. To be just students.
