After Rhaenyra and her children left King's Landing, the Red Keep felt more like a prison than a home. Visenya wandered the vast corridors, the emptiness of the castle pressing in on her. The once lively halls were now silent, the absence of her sister and nephews weighing heavily on her heart.
Visenya tried to fill the void with training and studies, but nothing could distract her from the growing sense of isolation. The court was no place for a princess who didn't conform to the expectations placed upon her. She was too wild, too headstrong, and too much of a reminder of everything Viserys wanted to forget.
The days blurred together, each one more monotonous than the last. She spent hours in the training yard, sparring with anyone who would challenge her, but even that lost its thrill. She longed for the company of her family, for the comfort of her sister's presence. But they were miles away, living their lives on Dragonstone while she was trapped in King's Landing.
Her isolation grew worse after Viserys' health began to decline. The once vibrant king was now a shadow of his former self, and with him, the court's attention shifted entirely to Alicent and her children. Visenya was pushed further into the background, a relic of a family that was no longer in favor.
When the news of Viserys' death reached her, Visenya felt a mix of emotions. She grieved for the father she never truly had, but there was also a sense of relief. His death meant that the power struggle she had feared for so long was finally coming to a head.
But her relief was short-lived. The Red Keep was soon overrun with those loyal to Aegon, and Visenya found herself under strict watch. She was confined to her chambers, unable to leave without permission. The walls of her room seemed to close in on her, the once grand space now feeling like a cage.
Visenya knew something was wrong when she heard the commotion outside her door one night. She pressed her ear to the door, straining to hear the voices of the guards. They were discussing the coronation, Aegon's coronation. The words sent a chill down her spine. Aegon was being crowned king, and she was being kept in the dark.
She had to get out, had to warn her sister. But every door was locked, every window sealed. She was trapped.
It wasn't until the next morning that she heard a soft knock on her door. She opened it to find Rhaenys, her expression grim.
"They're planning to crown Aegon," Rhaenys said, her voice hushed. "We need to leave, now."
Visenya nodded, grabbing her sword and cloak. Together, they made their way through the secret passages of the Red Keep, avoiding the guards and making their way to the stables. Sir Eryk had arranged for horses, but before they could make it to the stables they got pulled into the throngs of people. The waves of bodies were swarming to the Dragon Pit. As the bodies stopped in the Dragon Pit the coronation began. Rhaenys and Visenya made their way beneath the Dragon Pit to their respective Dragons while the people around them were distracted. Once the moment was right, the burst throught the top of the Dragon Pit, and chaos ensued. Visenya and Silverwing fled quickly, while Meleys and Rhaenys weren't far behind them, the wind whipping through their hair as they fled the city.
When they reached Dragonstone, Visenya was exhausted, but there was no time to rest. She immediately sought out Rhaenyra, who was already in the war room, surrounded by her most trusted advisors.
"I have something for you," Visenya said, pulling a small, worn crown from her bag. It was Viserys' crown, the one Sir Eryk had smuggled out of the Red Keep. She handed it to Rhaenyra, her expression unreadable.
"I would have thrown it away," Visenya admitted, "but I knew it meant more to you than it ever could to me."
Rhaenyra took the crown, her eyes softening as she looked at her sister. "Thank you, Visenya."
For the first time in weeks, Visenya felt a sense of purpose. She was with her family again, and together, they would face whatever came next. The storm was upon them, but at least she wasn't facing it alone, she was facing it with her Queen. Rhaenyra.
