(Ayumi POV)
"That's too bad."
Ayumi was walking outside with Mello. Mello had instructed her to cover as much of her features as possible to avoid recognition, so she wore a drama mask (smiling) and gloves to hide her rings. She also had long socks to hide her birthmark below her knee. She was wearing the craziest combination of outfits, but it still looked wonderful on her.
"I was with Ryuk earlier," Ahma continued, "and he told me about how Light's planning to rescue you."
"Is that so?" Mello replies.
Both the girls stopped talking. Ahma had forgotten that since Mello touched Ayumi's Death Note earlier, he was still able to hear and see her. Mello then wrapped an arm around Ayumi's waist and pressed her against his side and continued to walk.
"She's not going anywhere," he snarls. "Isn't that right, Tado-san?" he whispered in her ear.
Ayumi was very flustered and surprised. Even just the contact from Mello's waist was enough to heat her. Her face was warming and her cheeks were blooming red. Ahma was staring at her trying not to make any reactions, because Mello was watching, but her lips did twitch upwards.
"Yes, Mello," Ayumi mumbled. "I'm not going anywhere."
"Good. Now that that's settled, I need something from you."
Ayumi looked up at Mello who was still facing forwards.
"I'm gonna take you to the SPK, find Near, and tell him who you are."
Ayumi's eyes widen. "But I thought—"
"I know what I'm doing," he scolds. "Don't question me."
Mello's eyes scan around the street for a secluded area. He then tightens his grip on Ayumi's waist and pulls her into an alleyway. Immediately, he pressed her against a wall and covered her mouth with his hand.
"Your lips feel better than plastic," he murmurs. "On my hand, obviously," he added, realizing how his statement could be misinterpreted. "When I'm muffling you, because you're so noisy."
Of course, Ayumi knew what he meant, yet her mind couldn't help but drift away into other more intimate fantasies. Then flashbacks of her dreams flooded in.
Kissing...making out...s—
The last one would definitely not happen. It wasn't possible. Never. Never never never ever.
"What you're gonna do is simple," he starts. "I'm gonna bring you to somewhere. Hal will come looking for you. She's a tall blonde woman and she'll be wearing a black man's suit, sunglasses, and have her hair in a low ponytail."
"Isn't she Misa's bodyguard?" Ayumi asks.
"Yes, but that's not important. Pay attention.
"When she walks up to you, she'll ask you say a number. Say '145118'. After that, she'll respond with '136121215' and you'll just nod, okay? If she says anything else, shoot her. I'll give you a gun."
"Huh? W-why should I shoot her?"
"She's trained to have everything memorized. If she doesn't say those exact numbers, it's not her."
Ayumi nods even though she's still confused.
"She'll take you to Near and you better say these exact words or they'll shoot you," he leans in closer to her ear, his breath tickling her lobe, " 'My name is Tadomi Ayumi and I've been sent to aid your search for Kira.' Got it?"
Ayumi's face heats up. She only picks up the important parts of his sentence because she was more focused on how close their bodies were. The edges of the shirts were touching each other and his knee was bent against her thigh. His lips were so close to her ear that he could kiss her if he just breathed. His hands on her waist subconsciously grips tighter and he rests his head against her neck.
"You know, if you do this right, I could give you a reward."
Now she's eager.

Just as Mello instructed, Ayumi was waiting for Hal to arrive at the location he sent her to. Unfortunately, she was blindfolded and had to rely on Ahma to guide her. Of course, Ahma took this as an opportunity to embarrass her.
She was now in the backseat of Hal's car rubbing her forehead.
"I got a damn bump here now," Ayumi whines. "You were supposed to lead me!"
"Is he in the car with us?" Hal asks.
"I'm a she," Ahma replies in annoyance. It irritates her constantly having to remind people that she's no longer a man. She wouldn't have minded if Ryuk didn't always banter her for it. To him, Ahma will always be a man, but he still (sometimes) respects her gender identity when he feels respectful enough.
When Kuroko (another shinigami) was still alive, she was the most supportive person throughout Ahma's transitioning journey. She was also a demi-girl, so she understood Ahma the most. Unfortunately, she died after strangling a human to death, a major rule in the Shinigami law that got her the automatic Extreme Level of punishment. Being reminded of her death always makes her jewel-eyes fade in color.
One day, she told herself, I'll see you again.
"She's a woman," Ayumi corrects.
Ahma almost smiles.
Hal nods affirmatively.
Ayumi feels the car stop moving and hears the engine fade away. The passenger door opens and Hal pulls her away from the car. After many verifications, they finally enter the SPK room. On cue, Ayumi trembles. "M-my name is...Tadomi Ayumi and I've been sent to aid your search for Kira."
"Hm," a voice responds. "Depict this. 145118."
"Alphabetical!" she blurts. "It spells out, NEAR," she says, her voice getting quieter.
"That's me," Near responds. "Remove her blindfold."
Hal removes Ayumi's blindfold. In front of her is a short Japanese boy with white hair. He's twirling it around his fingers while playing with action figures with letters written on them. He's lying on his stomach and swinging his face in the air.
"You knew, didn't you?" he says sternly.
