The bell rang, signalling the end of the day. I picked up my things and headed back to my locker where I grabbed my bag and shoved my things from the day inside.

I scrolled through my phone and headed out to the front of the school, where I was meeting Rep. We lived a few streets away from each other, which was handy when we wanted to hang out or walk home together.

Not long after I got to the front gate, Rep arrived and stood next to me.

"Ready to go?"

"Yep" I nodded and yawned.

We headed out the gate and started walking towards our houses. Rep ran up a bit further and dropped onto her skateboard, making me roll my eyes and walk a little faster.

After kick flipping off a curb, or attempting to, Rep skated back over to me and turned so she was next to me.

"Nine."

"Yeah?"

"Can we check the shop real quick, I need to grab something".

I nodded and put my hands in my hoodie pocket. "What do you need?"

"Bandages" she replied simply as she steered around a rock.

I eyed her with slight suspicion. "Rep."

"It's nothing to do with that, Nine. They're for when I stack at the skate park".

"You sure?"

"Yes, jeez" she said softly, stepping off the board and kicking it into her arms. "I've already got Lover on my back, don't need you there as well."

"I know, I'm sorry. I just care about you."

"If it helps-" she replied and lifted the side of her shorts. "Only scars, okay? Nothing new."

I sighed and nodded. "Okay."

I couldn't help but be this way, I'd been with her through everything. Which is what I do best, prioritise the people closest to me over everything else.

The door to the small shop near my house automatically slid open as we neared. We dropped our bags and things on the ground before heading inside. It was a random shop, just like a tiny supermarket.

Rep headed toward the medicine section, and I stopped to browse at the small collection of magazines.

My eyes wandered over the covers, gazing at the models on the front, mostly the women. They were all so perfect, I didn't understand how. Perfect bodies, perfect faces, perfect everything.

I sighed and observed the covers, subconsciously resting my arms in front of my stomach and feeling a tinge of uncertainty from my body. Nothing that couldn't be fixed, though. Slight adjustments had been made, and all would soon be well.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a voice beside me.

"Excuse me."

I turned around and my eyes landed on two girls. The girl closest to me looked to be about my age, with long, dirty blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She was wearing a tight tank top, her tanned shoulders exposed to the flickering fluorescent lights of the shop. Her pants were a dark navy, made from corded material.

The girl's pensive eyes were framed by a light, highlighting eye shadow, and a thin, sharp, cat-eye.

Just slightly behind her was another girl, she was taller than us and looked to be slightly older, her eyes were the same blue, but had a more striking look.

"Uh, hi" I said awkwardly in return.

"Where are the soft drinks?" The closest girl asked, her voice a low, nonchalant tone.

"Down that aisle there, I think. 3 or 4," I replied, gesturing to two of the shop's aisles.

"Thanks" she murmured, before leading her quiet acquaintance in the direction I had suggested. I watched them go; I hadn't seen the two before, and it was a relatively small area, everyone knew everyone.

I wandered away from the magazines and just browsed the reduced prices stand as I waited for Rep, who quickly appeared at my side.

"Ready to go?" Rep asked, a box in her hands.

I nodded and followed her to the checkout, where she payed and we left, the door sliding open slowly and then closing behind us.

"Hey, did you see those two girls in there?" I asked as we started walking the last 1 minute to my street.

"Don't think so, why?" Rep replied, skateboard in one hand and bandages in the other.

We chatted for the rest of the walk home, until we reached my house.

"Someone moving in?" Rep gestured to a large moving van parked outside the house across from mine.

I furrowed my eyebrows, "I haven't heard anything."

I looked closer and observed the two workers, who were carrying boxes inside the house. They were being directed by two bossy looking adults, and a wave of empathy for the workers ebbed through me.

"That's odd" I murmured. "Maybe it's those girls who I saw at the shop."

"I wouldn't be surprised." Rep replied, before her phone pinged and she looked at it, and sighed. "I really gotta get home, my mum's going to lose her shit if I'm any later."

"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow," I smiled, letting her begin walking away from me.

Rep yelled a goodbye and I headed up the driveway, pulling out my keys for the front door as I walked.
