My alarm woke me from my blissful slumber at 7 o' clock. The urge to stay in bed forever was incredibly overwhelming, but I dragged myself off the mattress anyway. I yawned, feeling unexpectedly more tired than I should have been after a long sleep.

I quickly gathered my chosen outfit for the day from my drawers and chucked them on my bed. Oversized hoodie, bike shorts, low top Converse. I yawned as I dragged a brush through my tangled hair, the bristles catching on knots and pinching my scalp.

The CD's hanging from my ceiling caught the light and reflected colourful splashes of light onto my walls as the sunlight warmed my bedroom through the window.

After applying a small amount of lip gloss and mascara, I unplugged my phone and jogged downstairs.

My dad had already left, leaving a container of leftovers and a small affirmation card in his wake. His daily positive reminders he left for me started in my first year of school, when I was nervous to start. He'd leave them for me in my lunch box.

I picked up the card on the counter and read the note. 'You're beautiful' with a smiley face. I read over the words a few times before sighing and placing the card back in its box next to the toaster. First time one of these things had lied to me.

After double checking I had everything in my bag, I stepped out the front door and started the walk to school.

I looked to my left, noticing an eery silence from Midnights' house. I stopped for a moment, my eyes taking in the closed curtains and dying garden.

Goosebumps prickled up my arms and I shivered. I forced myself to walk on, trying to shake off the creepy murder vibes.

A screen door slammed behind me and I jumped a mile high, spinning around immediately.

Midnights walked out the house, one arm cradling her other, which was red and bloody.

I swore under my breath and rushed over, calling her name.

Midnights looked up and froze momentarily before standing still, her chest visibly heaving.

"Holy shit- are you okay?" I looked down at her arm, which was covered in blood.

"I'm fine," she replied, the confidence in her voice obviously forced.

"You are not fine!"

Midnights winced as I gently took her forearm into my hands.

"Its worse than it looks."

I scoffed. "What happened?" I asked, observing her arm.

"Nothing." Midnights replied quickly, "I'm just clumsy."

"What, were you trying to use a chainsaw or something?"

The girl chuckled. "First of all, if this was from a chainsaw, I wouldn't have an arm."

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, this needs cleaning and bandaging before you literally bleed out."

Midnights sighed. "Well, I don't suppose you have all that on you right now, do you?"

"No, but I know someone who does."

"Why should I give them to her?" Rep snapped.

"Because she's our friend!" I ran my hands through my hair.

"She's not my friend," Rep glared at Midnights.

I groaned. "Regardless of whether you like her or not, Midnights is currently bleeding out. So stop being a stubborn prick, and give me your bag."

Rep rolled her eyes and passed me a small first aid kit from her bag.

"Thank you, god," I dropped down next to Midnights, who was sitting on the curb.

"She owes me more bandages."

"I will buy you a bulk package of first aid supplies if it makes you shut up." I tore open a gauze packet and began to gently clean up Midnights' arm, causing her to suck air through her teeth.

"As long as it's before I skate again. I could literally crack my-"

"You skate?" The injured girl beside me asked softly.

I looked up from Midnights' arm. She was looking at Rep curiously.

Rep narrowed her eyes. "Yeah. What's it to you?"

"Nothing. I've just always thought it looked cool and never got to try."

I tipped some water out of my bottle and onto her arm, revealing a long cut up the underside.

"What, mummy won't let you?" Rep scoffed.

I slapped her leg. "Reputation."

"It's none of your business, Nine. Stop being bitchy," she growled.

My jaw dropped and I quickly tucked the end of the bandage into the rest to secure it before standing up. "Are you being serious? What is up with you today?"

"Nothing! For fucks sake. I'm going to school."

I watched her turn around and walk away, furious.

Midnights slowly got to her feet beside me, looking a little pale and weak.

I sighed. "I'm really sorry about her. I don't know what her problem is today."

"I really want to punch her," the taller girl muttered.

I laughed dryly. "You and me both."
