It was late evening when Ember made her way into the kitchen when Sam came running up to her and asked if she had a boyfriend yet. Mom piped up from her bedroom her voice was harsh and she got onto Sam

"SAM EMERSON! APPARENTLY YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN READY!" Sam's shoulders aslumped as Penny came into the room her hands on her hips a frown upon her face.

"Quite harassing your sister and finish your semi dinner lunch. Now." She scolded him as he sat down in front of his cereal he poured for lunch. With a new glass of milk.

Glancing out the back door Ember narrowed her eyes as the wind whipped the trees and leaves around as a storm was approaching. The soft pitter patter of rain on a tin roof told her that it had started to rain, and that's when Ember saw something moving through the rain towards the house.

She had moved closer to the door to realise that what she was looking at was moving away from the house, the rain blurred it out so much she couldn't get a good look at it. That's when she opened the door as rain began to pound on the roof and all around her. The door swung shut behind her as she walked out into the rain. The drops beat down on her, as a few pieces of hail fell from the sky. She ignored the pain and freezing cold rain and followed her curiosity.

Her green eyes slammed shut as raindrops fell into her eyes. Rubbing her palms against her eyes she felt a warm sensation. A river of warmth flooded her skin as something touched her arm. Her eyes shot open to be greeted by a pair of gentle eyes, glancing at her arm she saw a grey toned hand touching her.

She noticed that her hands had started moving on their own and touched the skin behind his elbows, she hadn't even realised how long she had been doing it until a movement caught her eyes. His ears were long and pointed with a single golden ring clipped in each  grey ear and then like he had possibly planned his ear twitched again causing Ember to bit her own lip. She felt like she knew him. But she couldn't recall ever meeting him, something tickled the back of her brain but she couldn't quite reach it.

This stranger had captivated her mind as if he knew it his lips moved. But she heard nothing. She raised her eyebrow at him and hoped that he would realise that she couldn't hear him. He rolled his ocean teal eyes and to her horror he leaned closer.

When his face came so closer she half expected him to kiss her. But then he moved his head slightly to the side and whisper in her ear. His chest pressed up against her's pressing against the pendant that hung around her neck that was now firmly against her chest. Her heart sank into her stomach as his cheek touched her own and he finally spoke. With each word that came out of his mouth she watched as the ring in his ear move when his jaw did.

"It's been decades since I have laid eyes on you. It's good to see that you've come a long way since then." Her smile faded away as he spoke and she wondered what he meant by that. She never met him before in her entire life. . .That she could recall.

A tender sharp pinch erupted in her ear as he had apparently lovingly nibbled her ear, a tiny touch told her that his fingers had touched her other ear as he ran his thumb over it. He pulled back and nodded like he approved of what saw or was looking at.

"You have definitely grown up quite a bit. Your ears have gotten sharper with age and maturity." The heat crept up her neck and her cheeks as the rain slowed to a light drizzle.

A loud sound came through the darkening sky as a flash of light lit up his face and all around them. The little she noticed was his white hair and the fluffy black thing around his neck and shoulders was firmly plastered to him drenched in rain. And then it was dark again.

They both stood still against the side of the house as they both only exchanged a look. His was something between a look of longing and admiration but Ember? She was still conflicted about the whole situation. And something crazy crossed her mind. Was he watching her? She wanted to say something but when she opened her mouth the back door opened and a small voice called out in panic.

"Ember? Are you out here? Say nothing if you aren't out here." She opened her mouth to say something but this stranger stopped her by pressing his hand firmly over her mouth.

"Shh. . ." He waited for the door to shut and then he removed his hand from my mouth, leaving a small taste of salt on my lips.

"Why?"

"Finally found your voice, didn't you?" Soft skin brushed my lips as lightning flashed and a loud explosion made me jump.

As a kid Ember never liked thunder storms. Not one bit. And here she was soaking wet with a hot guy she had never met in her entire life in her backyard in the middle of a thunderstorm and he was kissing her. A few seconds passed until he pulled back and his warmth left her presence and she finally realised how cold she was.

A flash of light told her he was gone. Not a sign of him was left. She turned to the glass door and knocked. Her mother had her purse on her shoulder as she talking to dad. Her eyes grew wide as Sam threw the door open, she stumbled into the warmth of the kitchen while she was being bombarded by questions from her mom.

"What in the world where you doing out side in the storm?! Look at you you're a mess!" For a second there was nothing else in my mind except for the stranger.

"Go up to your room and get changed right now young lady." Ember awkwardly made her way to room and spent the next fifteen to twenty minutes in her bedroom changing clothes and maybe even crying a little bit.

She had come downstairs with a red face and her fiery orange hair was still damp and dripping with rain as she approached her mom who stood waiting for her.

Embers mother Penny had always wanted a daughter. When Ember was left at her doorstep she was sceptical about it at first. But when she grew attached to her new daughter. Penny didn't know what Ember was thinking about, but she knew that on her own time Ember would tell her.

Ember climbed into the car as Joseph watched her closely from his spot. As Penny climbed in besides him she nodded and he turned the key turning the cars engine on. Ember's eyes felt heavy as the car pulled out of the driveway and started down the street.
