Detective Mercer approached Victor Collins' apartment with a renewed sense of urgency. The hidden journal he had found in Emily’s locker had raised several troubling questions, particularly about Collins’ role in her research and any potential connections to the dark rituals described in Blackwood’s book.

Mercer knocked on Collins' door, and when Collins answered, he looked surprised but not entirely unprepared. “Detective Mercer,” Collins said, stepping aside to let him in. “What brings you back?”

“I’ve discovered new information,” Mercer began, showing Collins the journal he found. “This journal contains detailed notes on the rituals Emily was studying. It includes references to a ‘binding ceremony’ and a list of names. Your name is on that list.”

Collins’ face grew pale as he glanced at the journal. “I see. I didn’t realize Emily had gone that deep into her research.”

“Explain your connection to this research,” Mercer demanded. “Why was Emily so interested in these rituals, and what role did you play?”

Collins swallowed hard. “Emily came to me with questions about the occult, and I tried to help her understand the material. I warned her that some of the rituals were dangerous and that she should be cautious. I didn’t expect her to become so obsessed.”

“Your name was among the people she noted,” Mercer said. “Did she mention anyone else who might be involved?”

Collins hesitated. “No, she didn’t. I thought she was just a student fascinated by the subject. I had no idea she was in danger.”

“Your research and your warnings suggest a deeper connection,” Mercer said. “Emily’s fear and obsession point to something more than just academic interest.”

Collins shook his head. “I assure you, I only tried to help. If Emily was trying to perform one of these rituals, she might have gotten in over her head. I never intended for any harm to come to her.”

Mercer scrutinized Collins’ response, feeling that there was more to uncover. The connections between Collins, Emily, and the dark rituals were becoming increasingly complex. As Mercer left the apartment, he knew that he had to investigate further to get to the bottom of the case.
