He still could feel her hands tugging on his shirt, though it felt as if it had been forever and a day since she kissed him.
Bucky made Yelena and Natasha promise that they'd try, but back then, he made himself swear whenever he could that he'd prove to HYDRA that they didn't own him. And the worst thing about it was the fact that he would never be free of HYDRA's tentacles.
They wrapped around him as he slept, touched his mind frequently, haunted him whenever he felt lonely.
The weariness of life had now caught up with his two little friends from the Red Room... They'd never be the same, and they were just like him.
"Bucky." He heard someone say. Yelena Belova, sitting next to him on his couch. Grabbing the remote. Nudging his shoulder.
He flinched away from her touch, zoning back into reality. "Sorry."
Yelena's eyes tried to hide concern, but he knew that look like the back of his hand. "Bucky..." she trailed off, not finding the right words, or possibly just giving up on them. "Bucky, how on earth do you watch movies with only a sports channel?"
"There's a DVD player under the TV, and I have some disks in the cabinet," he pointed them out to her.
"You only use disks?"
Bucky shrugged.
"Oh my gosh," she muttered, crossing the room and pulling open the cabinet to reveal a large assortment of DVD covers filling the shelves inside. "So, you like sci-fi?"
"Depends. I didn't watch some of them all the way through becuase some of them managed to trigger me."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah," Bucky munched on a few pieces of popcorn from the bowl on the coffee table, watching Yelena rummage through the cabinet. She was probably thinking about how horrible it was to watch a movie and get randomly triggered by it.
"That's crazy. A few of these don't really look like your style, Bucky."
"Like what?"
"Um. Jumanji? Do you watch that?"
"I heard good things about that one!" Bucky defended, feeling his cheeks flush, even though he wasn't the one who originally owned all of those. "I don't, on a normal day. Those were given to me by my nephew's wife who hid them there to punish her daughter for something she did, I can't remember what, and they just left them there."
"I wouldn't have left these precious things all alone here, these are some good movies!"
"I called to ask if they wanted to come pick 'em up, but Dirk told me to keep them, since his daughter doens't want them anymore."
"Oh. Imagine having a daughter who doesn't like movies," she joked, but her smile instantly faded. Yelena tucked her hair behind her ear and dropped to the floor, sitting there with her head hung, knees up by her chest, and her arms around herself.
Bucky shot up from the couch, spurred by some invisible force inside himself, and kneeled beside her. "Hey, what's the problem?"
She took a shaky breath, leaning away. "You wouldn't understand."
