This world was supposed to be an escape, a place of adventure and wonder, but now, it was a prison with no key.
"I just want to go home," you whispered again, your voice cracking under the weight of your despair. The sky continued to darken, stars beginning to peek through the twilight, but their beauty felt hollow. The wind blew softly, as if trying to offer some comfort, but it only made you feel more alone.
Suddenly, you heard footsteps approaching. You quickly wiped your tears, not wanting to appear weak or vulnerable, especially not now. You glanced up to see a familiar figure silhouetted against the fading light— Amber. Her expression shifted from curiosity to concern as she noticed your red eyes and the streaks of tears on your cheeks.
"Hey," she said softly, her usual cheer tempered with a gentleness that slightly surprised you. She crouched down beside you, her presence warm and comforting in the cool evening air. "I saw you heading out of the city... are you okay?"
For a moment, you didn't know what to say. How could you possibly explain everything you were feeling? The absurdity of your situation, the homesickness, the fear, none of it would make sense to her. But the sincerity in Amber's eyes, the way she waited patiently, made you feel like maybe, just maybe, you didn't have to carry this burden entirely alone.
"I... I don't know," you finally admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. "I don't think I can stay here. I don't want to be here."
Although you weren't entirely detailed about it, you still hoped that she was able to understand somehow without telling her the whole story.
Amber nodded, sitting down beside you on the grass. She didn't press for more details, didn't try to offer solutions or tell you that everything would be okay. She simply sat there, her presence a quiet reassurance that you weren't as alone as you felt.
"It's okay to be scared," Amber said after a while, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "Mondstadt can be overwhelming, even for those of us who were born here. But you're not alone, you know? We're all in this together."
You appreciated Amber's attempt to comfort you, even if she didn't quite grasp the depth of your turmoil. It was easier this way, letting her think your fear was about the imminent dangers that plagued Mondstadt.
It made sense in her world, after all, and you were too exhausted to explain the true nature of your fear, the raw and unfiltered dread of being stuck in a place where reality and fiction had cruelly intertwined.
The pyro user stayed quiet, her eyes scanning the sky as if she was searching for the right words, or maybe just giving you space to collect your thoughts. The silence between you was comfortable, a stark contrast to the suffocating noise of your mind. It felt good to have someone there, even if she didn't know the full story.
"Things have been pretty crazy lately," Amber continued softly, her voice gentle, like she was sharing a secret. "Sometimes it feels like everything's falling apart, and all we can do is hang on and hope for the best."
