A/N: I am so sorry it's been a few weeks since I've updated the book. I had some writers block as I all of a sudden got an idea ad wanted to add it in before the original chapter 13 and 14. The next few chapters may take a little longer has I want to the to flow as best a it can before continuing the original storyline. (Just think of it as an expanded version of the book.) thanks so much for your support and patience I really appreciate it.
Today, Nick and Charlie were eagerly catching up with the Paris squad, a long-awaited reunion since their last get-together. The day had a special significance for Charlie, as it was the day she had chosen to come out to the group. It had been a leisurely morning for her; she had spent it cocooned in bed, enjoying the peaceful solitude while flipping through a few favourite books and catching up on some episodes of her favourite shows. Nick, ever considerate, made sure not to rush her. He knew that pressing Charlie would only heighten her anxiety and unease, so he gave her the space she needed to prepare herself mentally and emotionally.
By early afternoon, it was around 1pm, and Nick had been attentive, ensuring that Charlie felt comfortable and relaxed. They planned to head out to a local restaurant at 4:30 pm, a charming spot with outdoor seating that would provide a laid-back atmosphere for their meal. The anticipation of the upcoming reunion was palpable, but Nick was determined to make the day as smooth and stress-free as possible for Charlie.
As the clock inched closer to 1:30 pm, Nick decided to check in on Charlie's progress. He slipped into the bed where she was lounging, wrapped his arms around her from behind, and asked softly, "Hey, my love, you okay?"
Charlie turned to face him, her eyes reflecting both relaxation and a hint of nervousness. "Yes, I'm okay, just chilling."
Nick smiled, relieved to see her at ease. "Glad to hear that. I just wanted to let you know that we have about 3 hours and 45 minutes before we need to leave. I want to make sure you have enough time to get ready."
Charlie gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek, her gratitude evident. "Thank you very much. Do you think it would be okay if I wore the blue dress I got a few weeks ago?"
Nick could see the uncertainty in her eyes and offered a reassuring smile. "Wear whatever you're comfortable in. I'll support you with whatever you choose. And remember, you don't have to tell them if you're not ready, okay?"
Charlie's shoulders relaxed a little, but she still seemed torn. "Yes, Nick, I know, but I feel like I should. It's been forever since we've seen them, and I don't know when I'll have the chance to see everyone again."
Nick nodded understandingly. "I know it's tough. It's not the same as when we were in school, but we can always text or call to keep in touch. And remember, I'm here for you no matter what."
Charlie nodded, feeling a bit more reassured by his words. "I know, Nick. It's just different. I'm going to take a shower and get ready."
"Okay," Nick said, offering her one last comforting squeeze before she headed to the bathroom. "I'll be here or downstairs if you need me. Just shout."
As Charlie closed the bathroom door behind her, Nick took a moment to reflect on the day ahead. He was hopeful that the evening would be a positive experience for both of them, filled with warmth and connection. For now, he was content to wait patiently, ready to support Charlie in any way she needed.
Charlie emerged from the bathroom, feeling refreshed from her shower but now facing the challenge of getting ready for the evening. She slipped into her blue dress, admiring how it complemented her complexion. However, as she gazed at herself in the mirror, she found herself indecisive about her hairstyle and shoes.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, she called out, "NICK, CAN I HAVE YOUR HELP PLEASE!?" Her voice carried through the apartment, hoping it would reach him.
Moments later, Nick appeared at the doorway, looking casual yet sharp in his chosen outfit. "Hey, you look gorgeous," he said with a warm smile, his eyes lighting up as he took in Charlie's appearance. "What can I help you with?"
Charlie turned to face him, her expression a mix of frustration and uncertainty. "I don't know what to do with my hair or what shoes to wear."
Nick stepped closer, wrapping Charlie in a comforting hug before offering his advice. "Since we're going to be outside, I'd suggest putting your hair up. It'll keep it out of your face and will be more comfortable. I know you don't often wear it up in public, but it might be the best option for today."
Charlie nodded, considering his suggestion. "Okay, that makes sense. And what about the shoes?"
Nick glanced around the room, taking in the various footwear options scattered about. "Do you have any black boots? They would go well with the dress and are usually a good choice for an outdoor setting."
Charlie thought for a moment, then headed over to her shoe rack and pulled out a pair of sleek black boots that Nick had suggested. "I think these might work. Thanks for the help, Nick."
Nick smiled, feeling pleased that he could ease some of Charlie's stress. "No problem at all. You're going to look amazing. Let's make sure everything else is set so we can enjoy our time with the Paris squad."
With a sense of relief, Charlie began to arrange her hair, following Nick's advice, while he made sure everything was ready downstairs. The final touches fell into place as they prepared to head out, both feeling more confident and excited about the evening ahead.
