In anger, frustration, and annoyance Shreya's father; Mr Raghuveer Roy, objects strenuously when Shreya told him about her childhood friend; Arbaaz Saint-Clair asking for her hand in marriage and she too wants him. Her father calming himself, "who is he? and how dare you go to university and think about things like relationship, when you should be focused on nothing but your studies". "Disgusting!!, it's decided you will no longer go to meet him, its time you got married". Pleadingly Shreya implores, "Arbaaz is a good cultured man, he is as virtuous as he is righteous, he will scale heights no one can fathom from a man from Bangladesh". Feeling insulted Raghuveer's frowns, inquisitively, thinking if this man can provide a great life for his daughter, he must be able to earn to his standards, he asks "so what does he work as now?", hesitantly Shreya says " he is great at literature and he is working on becoming a music composer" Her dad scoffs "he will not be marrying my daughter, how will you survive". She tries pleading again, "how does that matter, I can adjust father, it's not a big dea...". Her father fed up with her nonsense, imperatively replies, "Look! When you are in love, nothing seems like a big deal, look at you, a good education, your about to get into a high earning job, you are an independent strong woman. Him... his status is far lower than yours, on top of that he is a Christian, don't you feel an ounce of shame in reducing our honour to the ground". "once you are married, you will understand what I am trying to say. Is that why you go literature club to meet him. You will certainly no longer go there. I do not want you to see him anymore. Trust me I know what's right for you".
"Like how you cried and were in a more terrible state when I dropped you off at the boarding school when you were younger. I could not bear the site, all I wanted to do was to take you back home, but I stole my self and knew that leaving you here would be best for your future. I told you then to write a letter to me to express your feelings. At first letters would come every day, then every week, then a couple of weeks would go by and then I would get a letter then months, till you stopped sending them. I got worried and so I went to your boarding school to find out what's happened to you, only to find out you were happily playing with your friends and everything was well and good with your teachers. Like this I knew I made the right choice, I know what is good for you. At first it will hurt but eventually pain will go away". Shreya looking defiant with tears streaming down her knowing she has lost all hope with marrying Arbaaz. She proclaims to her father "I will agree to marry to your choice and leave Arbaaz, only if you promise me you will read and acknowledge every heart felt letter I send to you till the pain in my heart subsides". Her father looking back at her with stern eye's accepts her challenge respectfully, calming down now, he replies gently "good, I promise you dear, you will heal, time heals all wounds".
She leaves for her room sobbing quietly, coming to a crescendo of wails, heart Broken, to no one she asks is life worth living anymore.
