Amai sat at the dinner table looking down at her phone. She had texted her mom that she wasn't gonna be there to close the bakery with her. She was left on seen, which was a bad sign. Ayano and Ayato glared at their older cousin Yamara from across the table. The twins had beef with their older cousin. Usually, Yamara would share their deepest secrets to their parents, getting the two in a lot of trouble.
"So..." Yamara started, taking a sip of her drink. "How's school been for you two?" She asked, smirking. Ayano and Ayato looked at each other before shrugging. "It's been fine." They both say in unison. They were not gonna reveal any of the shit that was going down in Akademi just so Yappy Yamara could tease and berate them. Unfortunately, their cousin caught on to what they were doing. However, she just kept her mouth shut and turned towards Amai.
"How has my baby cousin been treating you? Good I presume?" Amai raised her head and nodded. "Yeah, Ayano is great to me." Amai smiled, looking at the tall girl next to her. Ayano looked back at Amai and gave her a soft smile as they wrapped an arm around the shorter girl's waist. "Amai is a wonderful girlfriend. Kind, beautiful, smart, funny, a great baker....she has it all." Ayano responded, kissing Amai's cheek. Ayato rolled his eyes and made a gagging noise, obviously disliking the affection that his sister was giving to her girlfriend. "Gross." He muttered.
Yamara rolled her eyes as she smirked. "So auntie, uncle, how are yall liking Amai so far? Good addition to the family?" She asks, raising an eyebrow. Ryoba smiled widely, nodding her head. "Oh yes! Amai is such a sweet and lovable girl!" She gushed, to which Jokichi agreed. "Always has a smile on her face, kind and respectful. It's no surprise how much Ayano changed once the two started to date." He clapped his hands together happily. Ayato once again made a gagging noise. This time Ryoba noticed and turned to face him.
"Ayato, don't be rude. Besides, don't you have a crush at school?" She asks, to which the boy denied quickly. "No I don't." He said rather quickly, his face turning a slight shade of red. Ryoba hums. "Yeah, that's right! That little martial arts boy that comes over." Ayano raised an eyebrow at her mother's words. "Martial arts boy?" She asks, turning to smirk at Ayato. "Wow big bro, didn't peg you for the person to have crushes." She muttered, taking a sip of her drink. Amai simply sat back and watched all of this go down, giggling slightly.
"Oh yes! What was his name? I-I think it started with a B..." Ryoba hummed, trying to think of Ayato's crush. Suddenly, Yappy Yamara opened her mouth. "Budo Masuta, correct?" She asked, obviously knowing his name. Ayato slammed his hands on the table. "How the fuck do you know his name." He growled, his gaze low and dangerous. Jokichi placed his head on his hands, mumbling to himself in disapproval. "Lord have mercy..."
Ayato always gets defensive whenever someone mentions his crush, and right now, Yamara crossed the line. But she didn't budge at his outburst, simply smiling at him. "Oh Ayato, that shouldn't matter to you." She chuckles. The tension in the dining room was tense, so thick that you could cut it with a knife. Amai started to get a bit nervous, clinging onto Ayano for comfort. Ayato's hands started to shake as he got dangerously closer to the knifes. "Listen...just because you're my cousin doesn't mean shit. I'll kill you, hell I'll kill all of you if you tell him anything." He mutters, his voice devoid of emotion. Yamara rolled her eyes, leaning back in her chair. "Dramatic much? Just sit the fuck down and eat dinner." She spat, her voice rough and aggressive.
As Amai clang onto Ayano tightly, the tall girl notices how scared she is. "Cool it you two!" They shout, holding their girlfriend close. Ayato simply scoffed at their words. "Don't pull that savior complex shit on me Ayano. You know as well as I do that Yamara only comes over to stir up trouble." He sneered.
"Now Ayato, that isn't fair to your cousin." Mrs. Aishi scolded, standing up from her seat and walking towards Ayato. "Slowly walk away from the knives and count to ten, baby." She spoke out to him. With a shaky breath, Ayato walked away from the knives and sat back in his seat. "Yes, mom..."
The rest of dinner was quiet. Too quiet.
It reminded Amai of when she was younger. How her mother and father used to fight and she had to eat dinner alone. Her mother would storm out of the house while her father went to bed early. It was torture to her. She needed some fresh air or else she'd pass out from the sheer animosity of the room alone.
"Ayano. I think I'm done with dinner...can you walk me home?"
