Inayat POV

"Nanu told me about... Shiva."

I muttered, and for a moment, my mother turned into a statue. It seemed as if she had stopped breathing. Gradually, her eyes began shining with pearly tears, which fell down extempore as she blinked once.

She was about to lose balance when I ran to hold her. She crouched on the floor, along with me, but it was gradual as I had already held her. She didn't say anything, and began crying like a heartbroken girl, who had just lost her lover in the sport of love.

She sobbed miserably, without uttering a word. I embraced her tightly, and let her cry. She must be holding all this for so many years. It's time that she gives it out completely.

"You know......he was....(sniffles)...he was ready to accept Islam for me."

She quavered to me, crying insanely in my arms. I have never seen her so weak in my entire life. Her throaty voice trembled terribly.

"He was .....ready to do anything...!"

She kept mumbling, in between her sobs. I didn't say anything and patiently listened to whatever she has to say. She must have held all this inside her for so many years. I would love to become a medium that brings out that agony out of her.

"But he couldn't see me getting married to someone else."

She quavered to me, breaking the hug for a while, and glancing at me with her tear filled eyes.

"I begged.....Abbu. I told him everything."

She told me. Though I knew it, I wanted to listen to her agony so that she can feel relaxed and calmed once she is done telling me all this. Her story was already piercing my heart like a dagger. I can't believe that my mother went through all this.

"He said he would kill him if I met him before my nikaah."

She told me in a trembling voice, so scared that it ached my heart. For a moment, I hated this version of my Nanu so much that I wished I could travel in time and tell him how traumatic it became for my mother.

My eyes were also teary by now, that slipped smoothly on my cheeks. My arms were still entangled with my mother.

"He.... thought....he thought I betrayed him."

She muttered in a shattered voice, holding my palms again. So this is how it ended!

"And.....he.....(sniffles)...he ended his life."

The moment these words slipped off her tongue, she broke into cries again. I kept soothing her for some time. Is this the reason why she wants me to end up with chhote thakur? Perhaps she sees herself and Shiva in me and chhote thakur. She is probably trying to complete her undone love story through us, but does he really love me like Shiva loved ammi? Bhai Jaan's revelation has planted a seed of suspicion in me that I don't want to cherish at all.

Suddenly we heard a weird chaos that was going on downstairs. We didn't know what that was, so we ran there to check on it.

My eyes widened gazing at the scene before me. Armaan Bhai Jaan stood at the entrance, with a strange woman bedecked as a bride, while he looked like a bridegroom. Why were they dressed up like that?

And my husband stood behind them, happy and grinning widely, with a small girl in his arms, who kept squealing to him.

"Who is she?"

Ammi asked in a confused and tensed voice, brushing off the tears that she had shed before me, but Bhai Jaan's gaze lowered at her question.

"Bhai.....Bhai Jaan..who is she?"
