.Darrian was sitting on the edge of the couch, his heart racing with a mix of nerves and excitement. He had been planning this prank for days, determined to get David back for all the times he had scared him with his ridiculous stunts. Today was the day. He was going to break up with him—or at least, make him think he was.
David was strolling into the living room with his usual carefree grin, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. The moment he saw Darrian, he broke into a wider smile, his eyes lighting up. “Hey, Darrian! What’s up?” he called out, flopping down next to him on the couch.
Darrian took a deep breath, trying to keep his face serious as he turned to face David. “David, we need to talk,” he said, his voice low and somber.
David’s smile wavered slightly, but then he quickly covered it up with a laugh. “Uh-oh, sounds serious,” he teased, nudging Darrian playfully. “Did I forget your birthday or something?”
“No, David, I’m serious,” Darrian said, struggling to maintain his act. “I think... I think we should break up.”
For a split second, David’s eyes widened in surprise, but then he burst out laughing. He laughed so hard that he had to clutch his stomach, practically doubling over. “Oh man, Darrian, you’re too funny! Break up? Us? That’s a good one!”
Darrian blinked, caught off guard by his reaction. “David, I’m not joking,” he insisted, trying to sound convincing, though a smile was threatening to break through. “I really think it’s time we went our separate ways.”
But David just kept laughing, shaking his head as if Darrian had just told him the funniest joke in the world. “Separate ways? Come on, Darrian, you know you can’t get rid of me that easily!” He wiped a tear from his eye, still chuckling. “You almost had me there for a second!”
Darrian bit his lip, his resolve crumbling as he watched David laugh. He tried to keep it up, but seeing how amused David was by the whole thing made it impossible. He finally couldn’t hold it in any longer and broke into laughter himself.
“David! I was trying to be serious!” he managed to say between giggles, lightly hitting David’s arm.
“I knew it!” David exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear. “You can’t fool me, Darrian. I know you too well!”
Darrian shook his head, still laughing as David wrapped his arms around him. “Okay, okay, you got me. I was trying to prank you, but it didn’t work!”
David smirked, lifting him effortlessly over his shoulder. “That’s because you can’t break up with me. It’s impossible.”
“Put me down!” Darrian squealed, playfully hitting David’s back as he started walking around the living room with Darrian slung over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
“Never,” David declared, spinning around with him in his arms. “You’re never leaving me, Darrian. Not now, not ever!”
Darrian laughed, letting himself relax in David’s hold, knowing he was right. He didn’t want to leave him. How could he when they had so much fun together, even when they were trying to prank each other?
“Fine,” he said, pretending to be exasperated. “I guess I’m stuck with you then.”
David finally set him down, but kept his arms around Darrian’s waist, pulling him close. “You’re more than stuck with me,” he whispered, his smile softening. “You’re with me for good.”
Darrian looked up at him, his heart swelling with happiness. “Yeah,” he agreed, his voice just as soft. “I am.”
And as they stood there in the living room, holding each other close, Darrian realized that no prank could ever come between them. Because what they had was real—real enough to last a lifetime.
