Darrian woke up with a start, heart pounding in his chest. He'd only closed his eyes for a second. At least, that's what it felt like. The exhaustion that came with being a new parent was unreal. His body felt heavy, weighed down by sleepless nights and the constant need to be alert for their newborn son, Ohani.

He blinked against the fading sunlight streaming through the curtains and glanced over at the crib in the corner of the room.

The crib was empty. Panic surged through him, snapping him fully awake.

"Ohani?" Darrian whispered, his voice barely there as his mind raced.

His stomach twisted into a knot. He had put Ohani down for a nap just before he crashed on the bed. David was supposed to be resting, too. They were both so tired. Darrian quickly rolled out of bed, his pulse hammering in his ears.

"David? Ohani?" he called out, his voice cracking as he rushed around the bedroom, frantically looking for any sign of his son. His thoughts were a whirlwind of fear.

Had something happened? Had he slept through Ohani crying? Where was David?

He bolted into the hallway, nearly tripping over a stray baby blanket. He was breathing fast, too fast. His vision blurred with the flood of anxiety overtaking him.

His feet carried him to the living room, and that's when he heard it. A soft, soothing voice singing.

Darrian froze in the doorway, his chest heaving with relief. There, in the corner, sat David in the rocking chair, shirtless with their son cradled against his chest.

Ohani's tiny body rested snugly on David's skin, completely at ease. David's voice was soft, tender as he sang Blue by Beyoncé.

"Sometimes these walls seem to cave in on me..but when i look in your eyes..i feel alive"

Darrian's knees buckled with the sudden rush of relief. He didn't realize how tightly he had been holding on to his fear until it dissolved at the sight of his husband and son. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he let out a shaky breath, leaning against the doorframe.

David glanced up, his eyes warm and knowing. "Hey, babe," he whispered softly, careful not to wake Ohani, who was already drifting off in his arms. "You okay?"

Darrian nodded, swallowing hard. "Yeah, I just... I woke up and freaked out when I didn't see him in the crib."

David smiled softly, his voice still low and soothing as he kept rocking. "I heard him stir and figured you needed the rest. He was a little fussy, so I thought I'd try some skin-to-skin and sing to him. Seems to do the trick."

Darrian wiped at his eyes, feeling foolish for panicking, but the overwhelming sense of love and gratitude washed over him. David always knew what to do, even when Darrian felt like he was drowning in all the stress of being a new parent.

"I'm sorry," Darrian muttered, stepping closer and kneeling beside the chair. "I should've known you had him. I just... I'm scared all the time, you know?"

David reached out with his free hand, brushing a tear from Darrian's cheek. "I know. Me too. But we're in this together, alright? We're doing our best."

Darrian nodded, leaning his head against David's knee, letting the sound of his husband's voice and the steady rhythm of the rocking chair calm the chaos in his mind.

For the first time in what felt like forever, Darrian allowed himself to breathe, really breathe, knowing that no matter how tough things got, David would always be there, singing them both back to peace.
