CHAPTER 1 CLOVE

Clove Kentwell took a deep breath as she faced the horror ahead of her, also known as Panem Academy. Her orphanage had decided that she was 'too unique' to stay there, or 'too dangerous'. She couldn't understand. So she could chop meat by throwing knives in the air. So she accidentally impaled a boy's hand.

She sighed. She should forget about what happened before, and move on. She was fifteen, after all. Time to face the world. She walked in, and was greeted by a girl with blonde hair, full of bubbly energy.

"My name's Glimmer!" cried the girl. "Nice to meet you, Glitter," said Clove, purposely annoying the girl. Glimmer frowned for a moment, then her smile reappeared. "Anyway, I'm going to be your guide here!" "Okay," said Clove. "You can sit at my table at lunch, I'm sure everyone will love you," said Glimmer.

'Your hopes are getting smashed,' thought Clove, but she just smiled. "Let me show you to your first class," said Glimmer. Clove obediently followed Glimmer towards a classroom ,which was already half-full of students.

"My name's Mr. Beetee," said the man standing at the front. "Please stand at the front, you'll have to introduce yourself," he continued. Clove groaned inwardly. This was the underside of being a new student at the middle of the semester, fifteen-year-old version of show and tell.

Students filed in, and they stared at her. When the seats were all full, Mr. Beetee made Clove introduce herself. "My name is Clove Kentwell. I'm not bad at throwing knives, and I hate people," said Clove. A blonde boy with messy hair laughed at this, and she shot him a glare.

"You can go sit next to Cato there," said Mr. Beetee. The boy who had laughed motioned with his hand for her to sit next to him. Clove reluctantly plopped down next to him. "Hi, my name's Cato Hadley," said the boy. Clove ignored him and reached for her textbook, and remembered that it wasn't there.

"Please share a book with Miss Kentwell, Mr. Hadley," said the teacher. Cato slid his book towards her, so it was positioned in the middle of the table. Clove saw letters like 'pita', and 'rye', 'catnip', and so on. "It's cooking class," said Cato, seeing her confused expression. Mr. Beetee led the class into baking straight away, so Clove was a mess.

The problem was that Clove didn't know how to cook, except for maybe chopping stuff with knives. Luckily, Cato covered for her, mostly. He taught her how to make dough for cookies. Clove was relieved that the class had ended when the bell rang.

Glimmer came over again, and whisked her away. "I can't believe that you were seated next to Cato Hadley!" she cried. "Poor you," she sympathized. "Why?" asked Clove. "He seemed too over helpful," she added. "Cato Hadley has a reputation," explained Glimmer. "Rumor is that he killed his own brother."

I hope you enjoyed this chapter, if you read it.
