i left for five seconds
where are you?

I set my phone down and looked up at the tall boy in front of me. He raised an eyebrow.

"Boyfriend?" He asked. I laughed.

"I don't do boyfriends." It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't necessarily by choice. It was easier than bringing new shitheads home to the guys, let alone James' family. Monty would tear them apart and Effie would tell me I could do better. My parents and I didn't talk once I left for school, so they were the family I knew anymore. I glanced back at my phone to see Sirius calling.

"I gotta go." I told the boy. He gave me a look.

"Sure seems like a boyfriend." I shook my head with a grin as I stood up, maybe it was the alcohol but I hadn't registered how close we were when I was sitting down. He took a step back to let me pass. He grabbed my wrist as I sidestepped him. "Gonna tell me your name?" I tilted my head back and forth.

"Maybe someday." I said as I answered my phone and walked away.

"Where the hell are you? Do you have James? Moony- I'm fucking trying!" Sirius yelled in my ear as I answered. I chuckled.

"I was getting a drink! You know, how you do at a party? To have a good time? And enjoy your college experience?" I replied as I grabbed a beer out of the fridge. I closed the door and hesitated, then grabbed two more.

"Are you in the kitchen?" He sighed. I smiled.

"On my way to you now, Black. Are you at the stairs still?"

"Am I at the stairs still? I never left!" I smirked as he came into my line of vision. I hung up and walked up to them. Rem smiled at me as I extended a beer to him. Sirius glared at me as I handed him one.

"Oh come on! We're at Mary and Alice's! I'm fine! I know this place like our own house." I replied, Sirius shoved my head.

"And where the hell is James?" He questioned again. I shrugged.

"Have you looked for that transfer girl he's fawning after? What's her name? Lily?" Rem nodded.

"Haven't seen either of them. He's a big boy Sirius. He'll be okay." He told Sirius. I nodded.

"Or we'll hear about him on dateline, either way." I shrugged. Sirius returned the glare to me. I smiled. "Where's Pete?"

"He left." Rem shrugged. I nodded.

"Party pooper."

"Guys!" James came barreling through the crowd. "Guys!" I stuck an arm out to catch him, he used it to steady himself. He was practically vibrating he was so excited.

"Hi Jamie." I greeted.

"Guys!" He said again.

"He needs a factory reset." Rem muttered. I laughed.

"Spit it out then, James. You can do it." I joked. He took a deep breath.

"I made out with the new girl!" He exclaimed. Me and Remus shared a look.

"And, uh, where is she now?" I asked. His face went blank.

"What? She's over in the window seat, I had to come tell you guys." Sirius hit his head against Rem's shoulder while I snickered. James looked around us, confused.

"Jamie?" I asked.

"Yeah?"

"You're a fucking idiot, mate." I grabbed his arm and lead him back to the window seat. I smiled at her.

"Hiya." I called. I could see the panic on her face. "Don't worry, not his girlfriend."

"Hi." She called back. I pulled James and sat him between us.

"James?" He sighed.

"I'm sorry for running away after kissing you." She giggled.

"S'alright." She looked over his shoulder to me.

"Oh right, I'm Ara. James is my best friend." I waved. She smiled. "He's a bit of an idiot, had to make sure he knew he was an idiot." I popped back up.

"Nice to meet you!" She called after me. I turned back around.

"Yeah, you too." I turned around into someone's chest. I looked up to see the boy from earlier looking down at me.

"You coming?" His friend called. He shook his head without looking away from me.

"I'll walk." He replied. His friend shrugged and continued his walk out.

"Are you following me?" I asked. He smirked.

"You ran into me."

"I never said you were good at it."

"Maybe you're following me." I looked around.

"I'd be really bad at it, I haven't seen you since I left you earlier." He smiled, then moved his gaze over my head.

"Is that your friend?" He jutted his head towards James. I nodded.

"Is that your girlfriend?" I asked as I turned back to him. He shook his head.

"No, she's my new roommate. Not just me, those guys that just left too." I nodded while he spoke, a smile slowly spread across my face.

"You ramble." He nodded with a chuckle. "Didn't take you for a rambler. You seem so," I gestured over him. "cool and collected."

"Ara!" Marlene's voice rang. I spun to find her. She had a cigarette between her lips.

"If that's lit Mary's gonna kill you." I yelled back as she ran to hug me.

"Who are you?" She asked as she looked at the boy over my shoulder.

"I'm Regulus."

"Like the star?" She pulled herself off of me so we could turn to face him.

"Uh, yeah." He was taken aback.

"That is so weird, we have a friend named Sirius like the star," The boys face dropped. Mars turned back towards me. "Where is Sirius anyways?" I shrugged.

"With any luck, he moved from the staircase. Maybe went home, is off my back for the night." She laughed.

"I'm gonna go find him." She waved as she ran off.

"You're Ara?" He asked.

"You're Regulus." He gave me a look before smiling.

"I sure am," He looked around before settling his eyes back on me. "Look it was, uh, it was great to meet you but I've gotta go."

"Oh, okay. Yeah. I should go make sure James isn't harassing your roommate."
