Saanjh has been pacing around the house since this morning feeling all nervous. I have tried almost everything to calm him down, but he is nowhere close to it. From chamomile tea to a head massage to a hot shower, nothing is helping.
I have been sitting on the couch watching him take rounds and rounds of the living room while fidgeting his fingers.
"What if he doesn't like me?" He asked nearing me and pausing on his steps for a moment.
"What's there to not like about you?" I replied. "And this is the fifth time you have asked me this question."
He again started to pace around, and I slapped my forehead seeing him worry unnecessarily. Today we were supposed to go pick up Anadh from the airport and Saanjh has been overthinking about his first encounter with my younger brother. My parents couldn't come as dad had gone for some business meeting in New York and mom wasn't going to come without him.
"Saanjh you do realise that he is ten years younger than you right?" I spoke. "What do you think he is going to do? And besides, he is very gentle and shy. I don't think he would even say more than a hi to you." My eyes moved to the wall clock, and I realised that it was almost time of his arrival. "Can we leave for the airport now?"
He halted on his steps and nodded hesitantly looking at me. Picking up the keys from the table, I said "I'll drive today. Who knows you'll crash the car into someone under all this stress."
We stood at the airport waiting for him. I held Saanjh's hand all this while to calm down his nerves as he was still panicking. I rubbed my hand over the length of his arm that made him look down at me. I gave him a reassuring smile while squeezing his hand lightly. "He's going to love you jaan and I'm sure of that," I said. He nodded managing to give a feeble smile in return.
"Di," I heard my brother's voice that made us both lift our faces up and look in the direction of it. We saw him walk out the automatic doors, pushing the trolly with his luggage on it.
"Anadh," I screeched and ran towards him with open arms. I took him in a tight hug which he reciprocated. "How have you been?"
"Good. Just missed you," he said breaking the hug. His eyes moved to Saanjh who had just walked in behind me.
I leaned in closer to Anadh. "Paer chhu kar aashirwaad le," I whispered in his ear, and he nodded.
(Touch his feet to take his blessings.)
Nearing him, he fell on his feet which caused Saanjh to jump out, making him all baffled. I giggled watching his flustered reaction and his gaze shifted to me.
"Seriously Adhvita? You had to do this to me when I am already so nervous," he said which just made me giggle more. Putting hands over Anadh's arms, he lifted him up and hugged him instead.
"Welcome Anadh," he spoke patting his back. "Hope you had a good flight."
"Thank you Saanjh bhai. I did. And sorry about my sister's mischiefs. She loves doing that to all of us and we always fall for it too," he said moving away.
