Chapter 05

The afternoon sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the River near the inn.

Inside a secluded courtyard, Wei Wuxian paced restlessly, his fingers drumming an impatient rhythm against his thigh. Lan Wangjee, seated calmly on a stone bench, watched his lover with a mixture of amusement and concern.

The waiting had become a test of patience for both of them. Lan QiRen's decision on whether to accept Wei Wuxian into the Lan Sect and bless their union was still pending.

It had been days since Lan Wangjee first approached his uncle, and each day stretched out with the same slow, excruciating pace.

Wei Wuxian's usual cheerfulness was marred by a cloud of anxiety. He tried to mask his nervousness with casual chatter, but Lan Wangjee could see through the facade. The uncertainty was taking its toll on him.

"You should sit down and rest," Lan Wangjee said softly, his voice soothing in the tranquil afternoon. He patted the space beside him, after few thoughts with smirk he add; if not I will bite you..

"Lan Zhaaan..... You little puppy.. " Wei Wuxian Stops the pacing, but hesitated, then finally relented, settling down next to Lan Wangjee. The proximity was comforting, but it did little to ease his restless mind.

"I know you're worried," Lan Wangjee said, his tone gentle. "But we must be patient. It's the only thing we can do right now."

Wei Wuxian sighed, leaning his head against Lan Wangjee's shoulder. "I just wish there was something more we could do. I know how important this is to you, and I hate feeling like I'm just waiting."

Lan Wangjee's hand found Wei Wuxian's, their fingers intertwining.

"We're in this together. Your presence here means more to me than you can imagine. We'll face whatever comes next, but for now, let's make the most of this time."

Wei Wuxian looked up at him, his eyes filled with gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Lan Zhan. You've been my rock through all of this."

Lan Wangjee brushed a strand of hair from Wei Wuxian's face, his touch tender. "And you've been my strength. We'll get through this, just as we've faced everything else. " he sealed it with soft kiss. Wei Wuxian purred in comfortable cocoon in between Lan Wangjee s hands.

The sky continued to darken, and the courtyard grew quieter. The only sounds were the rustle of leaves and the water flow of river.

Lan Wangjee and Wei Wuxian sat in comfortable silence, their presence a silent promise of unwavering support.
As the evening approached, Lan Wangjee stood and straighten his sleeve.

"Would you like to take a walk? It might help to clear your mind."
Wei Wuxian smiled faintly and stood up, nodding. "That sounds nice."

They walked through the lush gardens of Inn alongside the river, the air filled with the scent of blooming flowers. Lan Wangjee's arm was around Wei Wuxian's shoulders, offering comfort and warmth.

They talked about mundane things, their conversation flowing easily as they enjoyed each other's company.
Despite the looming uncertainty, there was a sense of peace in the way they were together.

The moments of quiet, the shared smiles, and the gentle touch of their hands spoke volumes. They were a reminder that no matter what the future held, their love for each other was steadfast.
As night fell and the stars began to twinkle overhead, Lan Wangjee and Wei Wuxian returned to the courtyard.

They sat together, looking up at the night sky. "No matter how long we have to wait," Lan Wangji said, his voice resolute, "I will always be by your side."

Wei Wuxian leaned in closer, his head resting on Lan Wangji's shoulder. "And I will always be here for you. We'll face whatever comes next together."

The night deepened, and the stars continued to shine brightly. In the midst of uncertainty, Lan Wangjee and Wei Wuxian found solace in each other's presence, their bond unshakable.
