Chapter 15
Wei Wuxian’s presence in Cloud Recesses had started to shift the atmosphere in a way that even he hadn’t expected. Despite his carefree nature and the lingering shadows of his past, his sincerity and dedication were slowly winning over the sect members.
However, beneath this surface of growing acceptance and camaraderie, a serious concern loomed, one that weighed heavily on Lan Wangjee’s mind.
Wei Wuxian’s current body had a golden core, but it was weak, fragile compared to what it once had been.
This weakness had not gone unnoticed by Lan Wangjee, who, despite his many responsibilities as the new clan leader, found himself consumed with worry. The golden core was the foundation of a cultivator’s power, and without a strong one, Wei Wuxian’s abilities and even his health was at risk.
Lan Wangjee, with his characteristic determination, began to seek a solution in the most sacred and secretive areas of Cloud Recesses, the forbidden section of the Lan Sect’s library.
He would often disappear late at night, sifting through ancient texts and scrolls, searching for any reference that might offer a way to restore or strengthen Wei Wuxian’s golden core. His search was methodical, driven by love and an unyielding desire to protect Wei Wuxian, even if the latter was unaware of the full extent of his concerns.
Lan Qiren, ever observant, noticed the strain this put-on Lan Wangjee. Though he had been strict and stern with both, Lan Qiren’s respect for Wei Wuxian had grown after witnessing his sincere efforts to integrate into the sect and support Lan Wangjee. He decided it was time to intervene, not to dissuade Lan Wangjee from his quest but to offer a more balanced approach.
One evening, as Lan Wangjee was about to retreat to the library once more, Lan Qiren stopped him.
“Wangjee,” he said, his tone softer than usual, “you carry too much on your shoulders alone. Wei Wuxian’s situation is serious, but it is not something that can be solved by you alone, no matter how much you care.”
Lan Wangjee remained silent; his gaze steady but troubled. Lan Qiren continued, “I know you wish to find a way to strengthen his golden core, but until that solution is found, it is important that Wei Wuxian begins cultivating in a more traditional manner.
His core may be weak, but through diligent practice, he can at least stabilize it and maintain spiritual energy in meridians.”
Lan Wangjee nodded, understanding the wisdom in his uncle’s words. “I will speak with him.”
The next day, Lan Wangjee and Lan Qiren approached Wei Wuxian together. Wei Wuxian was in the middle of helping a group of younger disciples with their swordsmanship, his laughter echoing through the training grounds. He looked up as they approached, his smile faltering slightly at the sight of their serious expressions.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangjee began, his voice gentle yet firm, “there is something we need to discuss.”
As they walked together through the tranquil gardens of Cloud Recesses, Lan Wangjee explained the situation.
He told Wei Wuxian about his concerns for his golden core and the necessity of beginning a more traditional cultivation practice. Wei Wuxian listened quietly, his expression thoughtful.
“I know you prefer your own ways,” Lan Wangjee said, “but until we find a better solution, we must do what we can to protect your health.”
Wei Wuxian nodded slowly. “I understand, Lan Zhan. If it eases your worries, I will do as you ask. But you must promise me one thing.”
