Chapter 06

Wei Wuxian had faced countless fierce spirits and impossible situations, but nothing compared to the dread he felt at the thought of meeting Lan QiRen.

It wasn't that he feared the elder Lan though his reputation for strictness was well known - but rather, he feared what this meeting represented.

This was the moment that could decide his future with Lan Wangji.
As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the courtyard, We Wuxian paced back and forth in the inn's courtyard, his fingers twisting together nervously.

He heard footsteps approaching. He turned, heart pounding, to see Lan Wangji returning from his Clan duty, It was Lan Wangjee s first day at Clan Leader position.

The familiar sight of his beloved in those flowing white robes should have calmed him, but the tension in Lan Wangji's expression only made his anxiety worse.

"Lan Zhan..." Wei Wuxian's voice was barely above a whisper as Lan Wangji came closer. "How did it go?"

Lan Wangji didn't answer immediately. Instead, he reached out and gently took Wei Wuxian's hand, leading him back into their room at the inn. Once inside, he closed the door and turned to face Wei Wuxian with a solemn expression.

"Wei Ying," he began, his voice steady but low, "Everything was well, Shifu was there too"

Wei Wuxian's heart skipped a beat. "And...Did he mentioned anything about us?"

"Shifu was not... pleased." Lan Wangji's words were measured, as if each one was a step on a narrow bridge that could collapse at any moment.

"He questioned the wisdom of my decision. He said that our relationship could bring dishonor to the Lan clan."

Wei Wuxian winced. He had expected as much but hearing it out loud still hurt. "What... what did you say?"

"I told him that I would accept any consequences, but I would not let go of you."
A heavy silence hung between them, thick with unspoken fears and doubts. Wei Wuxian felt his throat tighten.

"Lan Zhan, I... I don't want to be the reason you lose your family and your reputaion."

Lan Wangji's grip on his hand tightened. "You are my family, Wei Ying. Without you, I have nothing."

Wei Wuxian looked into Lan Wangji's eyes, searching for any hesitation, any doubt. But all he saw was unwavering determination.

His heart swelled with love and gratitude, but also with guilt. "Lan Zhan... I want to be with you more than anything, but..."

"No buts, Wei Ying," Lan Wangji interrupted softly, his gaze intense. "We will face this together."

Just then, a knock on the door startled them both. Lan Wangji moved to open it, revealing a disciple from the Lan clan standing outside.

The young man bowed respectfully before speaking.
"Hanguang-jun, Elder Lan QiRen, has requested your presence in the guest hall. He wishes to meet Wei Wuxian as well."

Wei Wuxian's stomach dropped. The moment of truth had arrived. He glanced at Lan Wangji, who gave him a reassuring nod. With a deep breath, Wei Wuxian straightened his robes and followed Lan Wangji out of the room.

The walk to the guest hall felt like an eternity. Every step echoed in the corridors of the inn, and Wei Wuxian's mind raced with possibilities of what could happen.

When they finally reached the hall, the doors were already open, revealing the imposing figure of Lan QiRen seated at the head of the room.
Lan QiRen's stern gaze fixed on Wei Wuxian the moment he entered.

Wei Wuxian bowed respectfully, trying to suppress the nervous flutter in his chest.
Lan QiRen's expression remained unreadable as he gestured for them to sit. Lan Wangji sat beside Wei Wuxian, their shoulders brushing in silent support.

"Wei Wuxian," Lan QiRen began, his voice even and controlled, "I have heard much about you, both good and ill. Your actions, both in life and in death, have left a lasting impact on the cultivation world."

Wei Wuxian nodded, unsure of where this was going. "I understand, Shifu.. I... I know I've made many mistakes."

Lan QiRen's eyes narrowed slightly. "Mistakes, yes. But also great achievements, though through methods that were... unconventional."

Wei Wuxian remained silent, sensing that Lan QiRen wasn't finished.

"But now," Lan QiRen continued, "you wish to join the Lan clan. To be a part of our family. This is no small matter, Wei Wuxian. The Lan clan values tradition, order, and discipline. Do you believe you can adhere to our ways?"

Wei Wuxian hesitated. This was the crux of the issue, wasn't it? Could he, the unruly and often reckless Yiling Patriarch, truly fit into the strict and disciplined world of the Lan clan? He glanced at Lan Wangji, who was watching him with quiet encouragement.

"I know I'm not the most traditional person," Wei Wuxian began carefully, "and I know I've caused trouble in the past. But... I love Lan Zhan. And I want to be with him.

If that means following the rules and traditions of the Lan clan, then I will do my best. I won't promise to be perfect, but I'll try. For Lan Zhan."

Lan QiRen's expression softened, just a fraction, but it was enough to give Wei Wuxian hope.

"You speak with sincerity," Lan QiRen said after a long pause. "That is admirable. But sincerity alone is not enough. You must prove your commitment, not just to Lan Wangjee, but to the Lan clan as a whole."

Wei Wuxian swallowed hard. "I understand."

Lan QiRen studied him for a moment longer, then sighed, a sound that seemed to carry the weight of years of duty and responsibility. "Very well. I will not stand in the way of your relationship. But know this, Wei Wuxian... your actions from this point forward will reflect not only on yourself, but on the Lan clan. Do not take this lightly."

Wei Wuxian bowed his head deeply.
"Thank you, Shifu... I won't disappoint you."

Lan QiRen nodded, then turned to Lan Wangjee. "Wangjee, you have made your choice. I trust you to uphold the honor of our clan."

"Mn," Lan Wangjee replied, his voice steady.

With that, Lan QiRen rose from his seat. "I will make the necessary arrangements for your return to Cloud Recesses. You may both stay here tonight, but tomorrow, you will return to Gusu."

As Lan QiRen left the room, Wei Wuxian finally allowed himself to breathe. He turned to Lan Wangjee, who was watching him with a small, proud smile.

"We did it, Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian whispered, his voice filled with relief and disbelief.

"Mn," Lan Wangjee agreed, pulling Wei Wuxian into a gentle embrace. "We did."

What awaits Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji at Cloud Recesses? Will Wei Wuxian find his place within the Lan clan? Stay tuned for Chapter 07
