The first thing I noticed when I woke up was how empty the bed felt. The sheets next to me were cool, and I reached over instinctively, hoping to feel Davis's warmth, but he was already gone. My body ached, especially my legs-they were so sore that even shifting slightly in the bed made me wince. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh, the memories of the night before flooding back in vivid detail. I had a bratty attitude, and Davis had his way of adjusting it, making sure I knew exactly who was in charge.
I sat up slowly, my muscles protesting with every movement. Off to the side of the nightstand was a note and a small bottle of pain pills. His handwriting, sharp and clean, read: I had to leave early for work. I'll be back. Call me when you wake up. There was a little smiley face doodled at the bottom. Typical Davis-serious but always finding ways to make me smile.
I took the pain pills with the water he had thoughtfully left out, sinking back into the pillows as the soreness in my legs started to ease slightly. Flashbacks of last night played in the back of my mind-the way Davis's hands had gripped me, the intensity of his kisses, how he had taken control and reminded me just how much he cared, even when I was being difficult. A soft smile crept across my face, and I found myself blushing at the thought of it all.
I glanced over at my phone on the nightstand and picked it up. The screen lit up with messages and notifications, but the only person I wanted to talk to was Davis. Without hesitation, I called him, and he picked up on the first ring like he always did.
"How did you sleep?" he teased, his voice rich with amusement.
I couldn't help but laugh softly. "Good, really good," I admitted, my tone playful as I sat up in bed. "How's court going?"
"Good," he replied, his voice filled with that confident energy he always carried. "I won the case, thanks to the flash drive you found for me." I could practically hear the smile in his voice, and it made my heart swell with pride.
"Well, that's good," I said, smiling to myself. "I can't wait to see you later-I have something to tell you. It's good news."
"Ok, ma," he replied, his tone softening. "I'll be back soon. I love you."
"I love you too, baby," I said, my voice low and affectionate before we both hung up.
I leaned back into the pillows, my mind racing with excitement. I had received an email earlier in the morning from Cupcake Wars, one of the most popular baking shows on TV, and they wanted me to be on their next season. The opportunity felt surreal-something I had dreamed about but never really expected to happen. I couldn't wait to tell Davis. This was a chance to expand my business, to really put myself out there, and I knew he'd be just as excited for me as I was for myself.
After spending the next few hours resting, I finally forced myself out of bed. My legs were still shaking and throbbing slightly, but I managed to make my way to the kitchen. I grabbed a pint of vanilla ice cream from the freezer and sat back down on the couch, turning on the TV. As I scrolled through the channels, I found myself thinking about how far I had come. From running a small bakery out of my apartment to this-Cupcake Wars was a huge deal, and I couldn't wait to tell Davis everything.
A little while later, I heard the familiar sound of the door unlocking, followed by the soft click of Davis's shoes against the hardwood floor. I turned my head, watching as he walked in, looking as handsome as ever in his suit. His briefcase was in one hand, and he was already loosening his tie with the other.
"Hey, baby," he greeted me with a smile as he walked into the living room.
"Hi, babe," I replied, a spoonful of ice cream still in my mouth. I paused the TV, watching as he headed toward the bathroom to change out of his work clothes. When he came back, he had switched into a pair of gray sweats and a plain black t-shirt, looking much more relaxed.
He climbed into bed beside me, and I felt the mattress dip under his weight as he handed me a Hershey's Cookies 'n' Cream bar. "For you," he said with a grin, and I couldn't help but giggle.
"Thank you," I said, leaning over to kiss him all over his face, smothering him with affection. He chuckled, but before I could pull away, he grabbed me by the neck, pulling me into a deep kiss. His lips were warm and soft, and I felt his tongue graze mine as he deepened the kiss. My breath hitched, my body instinctively leaning into him as the kiss grew more passionate.
When he finally pulled back, I was left biting my lip, my cheeks flushed. "So, what's the good news?" he asked, his fingers brushing gently against my arm as he watched me with those deep, brown eyes.
I took a deep breath, feeling a surge of excitement as I looked up at him. "Um, I'm going to be on Cupcake Wars," I said, my voice brimming with excitement. "They emailed me this morning."
His smile widened, and I could see the pride in his eyes as he leaned down to kiss the top of my head. "That's great news, ma," he said, his voice soft and sincere. "I'm proud of you."
I beamed at his words, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. He always knew how to make me feel like I could do anything, like no dream was too big. His hand began to roam around my body, his fingers tracing light patterns along my waist and hips, sending shivers down my spine.
"Oh no, you sex addict," I giggled, playfully pushing his hand away. "My whole body is still sore from last night."
He chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he leaned in closer, his lips brushing against my ear. "I can't help it," he whispered, his voice low and teasing. "You're just too tempting."
I laughed, swatting at him again. "Okay, okay, I'll let you rest... for now," he said with a smirk, pulling away and settling back against the pillows.
I let out a sigh of relief, though I couldn't deny the way my body still reacted to his touch. Even sore and tired, he had a way of making me feel alive, like every nerve in my body was on fire. I turned back to the TV, pressing play on the show I had been watching before he came home, but my mind was only half-focused.
For the rest of the evening, we stayed in bed, watching TV and talking about the day. Davis filled me in on the details of his court case, and I shared more about the Cupcake Wars opportunity. The conversation flowed easily between us, comfortable and warm, and I felt a sense of contentment settle over me.
Later, as the night wore on and the city outside grew quiet, I found myself lying in Davis's arms, my head resting on his chest as his fingers gently played with my hair. The steady rise and fall of his chest, the warmth of his body against mine-it was all so familiar, so comforting.
I thought about the future-about what was coming next for both of us. Cupcake Wars was just the beginning, a stepping stone to something bigger. And with Davis by my side, I knew that no matter what happened, I'd be okay. He was my anchor, and my support, and I couldn't imagine going through any of this without him.
"Goodnight, baby," I whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his chest as I cuddled closer.
"Goodnight, ma," he replied, his voice low and gentle as he kissed the top of my head. "I love you."
"I love you too," I murmured, closing my eyes and letting the steady rhythm of his heartbeat lull me to sleep.
