Davis couldn't stop smiling as he watched Sadira move around the house, her energy completely different from the last few weeks. The cloud that had hung over her after finding out about the pregnancy had lifted, and now, she was glowing. Every day, she seemed happier, more radiant. Her once flat stomach was starting to round out a little, and she was putting on weight in all the right places, something that drove him crazy. He loved how she looked, how her body was changing, and most of all, how she seemed to be embracing this journey now.
He leaned against the kitchen counter, watching her as she stood in front of the fridge, debating what to eat. She had this habit of bouncing on her toes when she was excited or happy about something, and she was doing that right now, completely oblivious to his gaze. Her smile was wide, her hair spilling over her shoulders in loose waves. She was beautiful.
"You want me to make you something?" Davis asked, walking over to her. His hands instinctively went to her waist, pulling her close. He couldn't help it-he just wanted to touch her all the time now.
Sadira looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. "Mmm, I think I'm craving pancakes," she said, laughing. "Or maybe waffles. I don't even know."
Davis chuckled, kissing the top of her head. "You're craving everything, ma. I got you though. Pancakes coming right up."
As he started making breakfast, Davis couldn't help but reflect on how much things had changed in the past four weeks. Sadira had been so nervous at first, doubting herself, scared of what being pregnant meant. But now? She was embracing it. He saw the way she touched her stomach sometimes, the small smile she had when she thought no one was looking. She was glowing, and it made him fall even more in love with her.
It was almost time for their doctor's appointment, and today was a big one. They were going to find out just how far along she was, and most importantly, check on the baby. Davis was nervous but excited. He had been looking forward to this day for weeks, imagining what it would be like to finally see their baby on the ultrasound screen.
"Hey, you ready for today?" Davis asked, flipping the pancakes onto a plate and setting them down in front of her.
Sadira grinned, her face lighting up at the sight of the food. "Oh, I'm ready," she said, her voice full of excitement. "I've been watching all these parenting videos and reading up on everything. I'm just ready to see the baby, you know?"
He smiled, loving how enthusiastic she was now. "Me too," he admitted, sitting down next to her. "I can't wait to see how big they are. Maybe we'll get to hear the heartbeat too."
Sadira's eyes softened, and she reached across the table to take his hand. "Thank you for being so amazing through all this," she said softly. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Davis squeezed her hand, his heart swelling. "You don't have to thank me, Sadira. I love you. And I love our baby. This is everything I've ever wanted."
She smiled, her eyes glassy with emotion, and for a moment, they just sat there, holding hands in silence. The only sound in the room was the faint clinking of their forks as they ate, but the air between them was filled with love and anticipation.
A couple of hours later, they were sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office. The faint hum of the air conditioning filled the room, and the soft beeping of medical equipment could be heard from behind the closed doors. Davis tapped his foot nervously, glancing at Sadira, who was flipping through a magazine.
"You nervous?" he asked quietly, his hand resting on her thigh.
Sadira looked up, her eyes meeting his. "A little," she admitted. "But mostly excited. I just want to make sure everything is okay, you know?"
He nodded. "Yeah, me too."
Before long, the nurse called them back into the examination room, and Davis followed closely behind Sadira as they entered. The room was small but cozy, with a large ultrasound machine taking up one corner. The walls were covered in pictures of babies, and there was a faint smell of disinfectant in the air.
Sadira lay back on the examination table, lifting her shirt slightly to expose her small bump. Davis stood beside her, holding her hand tightly, his heart racing in anticipation.
The ultrasound technician, a cheerful woman with bright eyes, entered the room, smiling warmly at them. "Alright, let's take a look at your little one," she said, squirting the cool gel onto Sadira's belly.
Davis held his breath as the technician moved the wand over Sadira's stomach, the screen lighting up with black-and-white images. The room was silent, except for the soft hum of the machine, and Davis could feel his pulse quicken.
"There we go," the technician said after a moment, smiling as she adjusted the screen. "Looks like you're about 18 weeks along."
Davis let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding. 18 weeks. That meant they were almost halfway there. He glanced down at Sadira, who was staring at the screen, her eyes wide with awe.
"Do you want to know the gender?" the technician asked, her voice bright with excitement.
Sadira and Davis exchanged a quick glance, and they both nodded. "Yes," Sadira said, her voice barely a whisper.
The technician moved the wand slightly, her eyes scanning the screen, and then she smiled. "Well, congratulations... because you're having two."
Sadira sat up quickly, her eyes wide. "What? Two?"
Davis blinked, trying to process the words. "Two? You mean... twins?"
The technician grinned, nodding. "Yes, twins! A boy and a girl."
Sadira let out a soft laugh of disbelief, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh my God, Davis. Twins."
Davis stood there, frozen for a moment, his heart pounding in his chest. Twins. Two babies. He couldn't believe it. He was going to be a father... to two little ones.
Sadira's eyes filled with tears, but this time, they were tears of joy. "I can't believe this," she whispered, looking up at him. "Two babies, Davis."
He leaned down, kissing her forehead, his heart full. "We're gonna have two little ones," he said softly, his voice filled with emotion. "A boy and a girl."
Sadira laughed through her tears, her hand resting on her stomach. "I can't believe it."
The technician smiled warmly, printing out the ultrasound photos and handing them to Sadira. "Congratulations again, you two. Looks like you're going to have your hands full."
As they left the office, Davis couldn't stop staring at the photos, his mind still reeling. Twins. He had been excited before, but now? Now, he felt like his heart was going to burst. He glanced over at Sadira, who was looking at the pictures with a soft smile on her face.
"How do you feel?" he asked, wrapping an arm around her waist as they walked to the car.
Sadira shook her head, laughing softly. "I don't even know. I'm still in shock. I can't believe we're having twins."
Davis smiled, pulling her closer. "We're gonna be great parents, Sadira. I know it."
She looked up at him, her eyes full of love and gratitude. "I love you so much, Davis. Thank you for being here with me."
"I love you too, ma," he said, kissing her softly. "And I can't wait to meet our babies."
As they drove home, the excitement buzzed between them, the reality of what was coming settling in. They were going to be parents to not just one, but two beautiful babies. And no matter what challenges came their way, Davis knew they would face them together, stronger than ever.
The future was bright, and he couldn't wait to see what the next chapter of their lives would bring.
