Cody woke up the next morning, still wrapped in the rug. He sat up, and took a breath. It's been a while since I've had a good nights sleep. His hair was like a hedgehog. He hastily combed it through, and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Coming out of the bathroom, he opened his cabinet, before remembering that he ate his ration the night before. Cussing grumpily, he slumped down the stairs, all the way to the bottom. Once the cold morning air hit him, he was instantly awake. He rubbed his face once and yawned and stretched leisurely. Today's the big day, buddy boy. He slapped himself happily and walked down the street, whistling joyfully.

He crossed about two streets, and rounded near a corner shop, an ugly doll showing through the window. It's ice blue eyes -like his- stared at him paranormally. He went through the door and heard the bell jiggle.

" Hey Cody. " the lady at the counter said, smiling warmly. She's always been nice to him, ever since he cleaned her pipework and dusted all the shelves.

" Heya, Aunt Gasket. Did Doug and his gang come up this way? "

She raised an eyebrow. "Ya know, son. I'd think you'd want to avoid them. They are on your trail. "

" I know, I know. It's got to end somehow. I'm sick of running. "

" Alright son. You know, your father used to say- "

" I know. Three steps to everything. Plan head, know what you're fighting for, and don't stop till the jobs done. "

She smiled at him. " Your just like your father. I do miss him. " she got teary eyed.

" Yeah, " he rasped. "Yeah, me too. "
Before anyone could say anything, the door burst open. Cody whipped around. Standing in the doorway was Doug. Oh crap. And his goons were with him. He looked around frantically, trying to find a way out. He was cornered.

" Aha... " the lady chuckled.
Cody stared at her. She just shrugged.

" Son, your father broke my daughters heart when he left her for your mother. I have no love for you boy. " she sneered. His heart thudded. Thanks a lot dad. Your relationships are gonna kill me one day.
He stared at Doug, cussing himself for not planning this part of his plan. Well let's do what I do best. Make shit up as I go.

He tried to stall them.

" So Doug..... Finally caught me, eh? It's been a while right? "

" Hah, " Doug sneered. " I know your trickery, Hills. If I remember correctly, you owe us money. "

" Well, I hate to tell you this, but you don't remember correctly. " he tried with a flashy smile.

The cruel smiles melted into hostile glares.

Time to bolt.

He charged straight at Doug. Doug ducked on instinct. Using one of the goons as a pole vault, Cody flung himself over two people and landed on his feet running. He took off down the street, throwing crates behind him. Doug was hard on his heels, and Cody swerved side to side, trying to lose them. Curse my life.
Cody ran hard, which came on instinct, since he's been running all his life. He dashed through the streets, but Doug was hard to lose, and his goons weren't too far behind. Up ahead, there was a small wall, sort of like a ledge, and the other side was factory roof. Cody saw the advantage he'd have.
He ran until he was a 100 feet from the high wall, and stopped abruptly. Doug was coming in too fast, and couldn't stop himself. Cody swerved to the side and turned around. Now he was directly behind Doug, and Doug was between Cody and the wall. Cody smirked and dashed at Doug. Doug snarled at him, ready to fight. But what Doug didn't know was that Cody was crazy. Cody charged at him, and at the last second, jumped into Doug's shoulders, and took a flying leap at the wall, and vaulted to the other side. He heard Doug cussing him from the other side. They'll be over the wall in a minute. Not wanting to risk relaxing, he kept at a steady jog, heading deeper into the slums. As he rounded a corner, he saw a warehouse in front of him. He would have went inside if he didn't hear Doug catch up to him so quickly.

" Can't you stay gone for a while? " Cody snapped.

" I'm afraid I'd lose you dear friend. " Doug grinned.
This time Doug charged straight for Cody, and all Cody could do was swivel to the side just in time. He dodged the other gang members and sped up the other way, adrenaline pumping. All his plans were ruined today. I hate my life. That's when he heard the gunshot. Bang!! His ears went numb for a few minutes, the echo rattled his teeth. He looked back just in time to see Doug reloading. Oh fuck. Cody ran side to side, jumped over walls and threw trash cans trying to avoid getting shot. The gunshots rang in one after the other.

As Cody ran into a narrow alley, he picked up a trash can lid, hoping to use it like a shield. With the way his luck goes, he ended up near a dead end. He gulped and frantically searched for a way out. There was none. The other boys rounded the corner and came to a halt.

" Finally, Hills. We have a moment. " Doug said.

" Listen Doug, I can explain. I didn't have the money then-"

" Save it. I've heard enough of your bullshit. "

" No listen. I didn't have the money then, I have it now. I can give it to you, and we can just walk off and pretend nothing happened. " Cody said with his hands up, backing away slowly.

Doug snickered. " Oh did you really think I'd let you off so easy? Nah, you owed us money, Cody. You broke our trust. "

" Stop pl-" Cody began, but he was cut off by the sound of a gunshot. He stumbled back, not quite sure what happened until the pain blasted him apart. He groaned and got on one knee, clutching his shoulder. A bullet had passed right through his shoulder blade. Fire coursed through his arm and the pain almost made him black out, but he held his ground.

" I don't want to hurt you Doug. " he muttered through gritted teeth.
Doug laughed.

" I'm the one with the firearm, Hills. "

" I get that. "

Doug raised his gun for another shot, and Cody barely raised his shield in time. The bullet somehow deflected off of the steel lid and flew back at Doug, hitting one of his henchmen.

Cody grinned.

Clutching the shield, he flung it with all his power straight at Dougs chest. The impact made Doug fly backwards. Taking the moment of stunned silence, Cody walked forward, turned around and ran at the wall and took off with a powerful leap. He managed to grab the edge of the 8 ft wall with the fingers of his uninjured arm. He yelped as his fingers were scratched away to nothing and pulled himself up precariously with only one hand, his other bleeding heavily and dangling helplessly. He gasped when he finally made it to the top. Without a moments hesitation, he jumped down the other side, an 8ft drop onto big piles of boulders, just as he heard another gunshot.
