Akira watched with wide eyes, holding her breath. Everything had turned deadly quite, and she could hear her heartbeat. Cato was towering over her captors, his eyes narrowed. Indignant to the subtle warnings Cato was giving, the head of the gang spoke,
" What do you want boy? You ain't got no business poking 'round here. "
One of the other guys spoke quietly in the leaders ear, but Akira could make it out.
" Boss, He's the Kuper kid I was telling you 'bout. We should go. " By the look on his face, Akira could tell that the guy was obviously frightened. The gang leader just smirked.
" So you're the famous boxer, huh? Well glad to meet you. Are we done here? " the leader asked dryly.
" I don't think so. Let her go. " Cato said, his voice calm and dangerously low. Akira's heart raced. She could feel the tension in the air brewing. There was an unavoidable fight coming, and she could sense it. At first, she had thought Cato was an ass, but now, watching him angry and defiant, protecting her, she decided he wasn't that bad. The gang leader wouldn't back down, and he straightened up defiantly. The dried blood on Cato's neck and the bruises on his face made him look more merciless as he set his jaws.
" Kill him. " the leader ordered. Two of his henchmen rushed forward, blades drawn. Akira watched in drawing dread. Cato however didn't even flinch. He ducked as the first one swiped the knife in an arch, and the other threw a punch. Cato sprang up again and threw a hard punch at one guy, and kicked the blade out of the other guys hand. The blade skittered across the floor, landing at Akira's feet. She couldn't pick it up, because the leader was still grabbing her wrist. Cato elbowed one attacker in the gut, and had the other one in a chokehold. He looked so dangerous at that moment, Akira got scared. He kicked a third attacker that charged him in the throat, and dropped the guy in his chokehold when he went limp. The scar on his cheek had reopened and was bleeding. The leader immediately ordered the last of his two men to attack. They sprang forward. A knife whistled past Cato's ear. He growled, his eyes ablaze. One guy flew at him, tackling him to the ground. Cato had his hands around the guys neck, choking him. He rolled onto his side and made an opening to let himself stand. He kicked the guy on his stomach, and whirled around to face the last opponent, who was clutching one of the fallen blades. Cato himself was empty handed. The opponent swung his blade, but Cato caught his arm. The guy gasped in pain as Cato wrestled the blade out of his hand. Taking the blade, Cato gave a huge swing to the side of the guys head, instantly knocking him out.
" Cato. " Akira whispered in fear. The leader had a knife to her throat, pressed tightly. Cato turned around at the sound of her voice. He was bleeding from multiple blade scratches, added to his previous wounds.
" Let her go. " he said, voice dry.
" Ha! I don't think so. Get on your knees, and put your hands up. " the leader demanded.
Cato didn't move. Akira was fighting down panic. She looked at Cato, eyes pleading. Cato slowly got on one knee, lifting his hands up.
" Hands up! Higher! Where I can see them. " the leader shouted. Cato lifted his hands higher. He caught Akira's eyes, and quickly glanced down at the knife resting at her feet. She understood immediately. She waited for the right moment, and when her captors attention was at Cato, she kicked the knife forward. Cato was quick as a viper. He snatched the knife and threw it like an expert. Akira felt her captors grip loosen on her neck, and he fell backward. She turned around slowly, afraid of what she might see. She was surprised at what she saw. The knife was embedded at the far wall, not even on the guys body. It apparently nicked the side of his neck, because he was bleeding there.
" Don't worry. He's not dead. I nicked a vein that'll make him unconscious. " Cato said dryly.
" Wh-? Why did you come here? "
" You forgot your coat. "
He handed her the leather parka that she had given his brother.
" I don't understand....? Why did you do that? "
" I've paid my debt. "
" Debt? You don't owe me anything. "
" You helped my brother. I've repayed you. Now we're even. "
What is he talking about? All he's ever worried about is what he owes! Jesus Christ!
Before she could think of something to say, he turned around and left the way he came. Sighing unhappily, she clutched her coat and started walking back to her house, sick of today's turn of events. She marched up the hill, and stopped at the Gates. The rich ones had set up a huge electric fence around the mountains, to separate them from the Dump. She was at the main gates, where there were two security guards with rifles.
" Akira Khan. Sultan residence. " she grumbled. They called her house from the watchtower, and when her father confirmed she was a Rich One, they let her in. The gates creaked open to reveal her home-a vast range of hills, bright green, with flowers, fountains, parks, shopping centers, and far away, the huge villas and mansions. She trudged along the sidewalk lined with purple forest blooms, making her way to her own mansion.
Ding Dong! She rang her doorbell. After a few moments, the butler opened the door. His eyes widened in surprise.
" Madam?! " he exclaimed in his ridiculous russian accent. " What are you doing! Oh my, your wet! Your father will be very angry! "
" Yeah, I figured. Anything else, Mister Obvious? " she said sarcastically. He gulped and shook his head, letting her in. She stepped into their huge house, not even glancing at the million dollar chandelier hanging 10 ft above her, or the five thousand dollar sofa set or TV. She stormed up the stairs, passing the silver fountain. The marble walls made her sick, and her huge green backyard with the pool made her want to drown herself. She entered the hallway of the second floor, and opened her bedroom door. Her room was easily three times the size of any house in the Dump. There was a huge silver king sized bed, a tub, jacuzzi, built in bathroom, TV , laptop, 24 hour hot water, her own cook and maid. Yet she hated it here. She felt trapped and powerless, like one of those damsels in distress that she see's in movies, just sitting there waiting for someone to save her. She wanted to go out and see the world. I hate my life.
