Chapter Xll

Cody was surprised to see his 'partner' at the ring. A few days ago he had been warned by the Big Boss that Cody had exactly two days to pay of the debt. Cody couldn't run from this one. The Boss ruled all the dirty business of the Dump, and he had gangs and illegal weapons. He would easily find Cody. Cody was scared, but he had tried to steal something expensive from a Rich Ones mansion. And his rotten luck had gotten him cornered by police and beaten up. Simultaneously the next day, Cody was kept inside that underground place, with no explanation. And I was forced to clean the house. Now, Cody had till midnight to pay everything off. If he managed to win this fight, he'd have enough money. Only thing is, I don't know how to fight. All I ever do is run. And now I'm being forced into hostile territory with a deadline around my neck. He had hoped he'd get a beginner opponent too, but he'd heard the crowd cheering his 'partners' name. He's obviously a champ. The announcer said the rules, but the only thing Cody understood was : "Fight or Die". The bell rang, sounding the start of the fight. Cody saw his opponents eyes widen with guilt and surprise when he saw Cody, and Cody couldn't blame him. That kid, Cato I think, is gonna be the death of me. Cato refused to take the first swing and Cody was reluctant too. He wanted to bail this fight, but he had no other choice. It was 11:30 already. I need the money, he reminded himself. He swung his arm, and Cato ducked. He skittered across the court and landed a punch on Cato. All Cato did was swivel around and punch Cody, not too hard on the shoulder. This is gonna take a while.

Cato hated this fight. He felt he owed the guy, but he had to win for his brother. This is exactly why I don't like to owe anyone anything.  He made up his mind to secretly warn the guy - Cody - that he should pretend like he passed out, so that Cato won't have to hurt him. Cato darted forward quickly, and tackled Cody. Pinning Cody's head to the floor and twisting his arm back, Cato whispered in Cody's ear, " Listen to me! I have to win this fight. My brothers life depends on it, but I owe you one, so I'll fake punch your head, and you pretend to be knocked out, got it? "  Cody wrestled under Cato's strong grip, as if he didn't acknowledge what Cato just said. Instead, Cody hissed back, " I need to win this fight too. My life depends on it. "  Cato bit back a sharp reply, realizing that this fight was unavoidable.

"I'm gonna have to take you down, Cody. I wish I didn't have to do this, but I have to. For my brother." Cato said, letting Cody stand back up. He truly meant what he had said. Cody stood up defiantly, and sniffed.

" In that case, " Cody said, " I'd like to see you try. "

After all the insanely stupid things, this hit the new Guinness World Record of 'Stupid things Cody has done'. How stupid can I possibly get?I'm gonna be Cody milkshake by the time this guy is done with me. What was I thinking, provoking him like that?  But Cody knew he had no choice. It was his life or Cato's brother. Cody did feel a little guilty, but he wasn't going down without a fight. He charged Cato, faked a punch, and slid between his legs instead. Cato punched the air, not expecting that move. Cato turned, a little angry, and attacked with a volley of punches. Cody blocked his face, as best as he could, but suffered deafening blows to his sides and stomach. Cato slugged Cody's stomach, and Cody bent over coughing. Cato's knee came up and caught Cody in the face, breaking his nose. Cody stumbled, pain shooting up his nose, and blood flowing freely. The minute the crowd saw the blood, they went crazy, screaming for more. What a blood thirsty group of screaming mongrels, Cody thought bitterly. Cody backed up into the corner, and Cato attacked, landing blow after blow on Cody's battered body. Cato's punches slowed a little, and Cody struck back. He landed a huge uppercut on Cato's chin. To the crowds surprise, Cato flew backwards. He landed on the floor, bleeding from a huge gash. He shook his head once or twice, but remained on the floor, coughing.
