Zee's morning had started like any other, with plans to pick up Nunew and bring him back to their penthouse. The memory of Nunew's smile from the previous night was still fresh in his mind, and Zee was eager to see him again.
As he grabbed his keys and prepared to head out, his phone buzzed with a message from Nunew. He smiled, expecting something light-hearted, but the words on the screen made his heart skip a beat.
"Hia, I've already left the house. If you're planning to come over, don't. I'm not there anymore."
The message was brief, almost clinical. It wasn't like Nunew to be so distant. Zee's first instinct was to call, but something about the message's tone made him hesitate. Instead, he typed out a reply, trying to keep his own worry in check.
"Where did you go? Let me come to you."
But the message sat unread, and Zee's anxiety grew with each passing minute. Something was wrong, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
Just as he was about to call Nunew's number, his phone rang. Net's name flashed on the screen, and Zee answered immediately, hoping for some clarity.
"Net, what's going on?" Zee asked, trying to mask the unease in his voice.
"Zee, have you seen the news?" Net's voice was unusually tense, the kind of tension that only came with bad news.
Zee frowned, confusion clouding his thoughts.
"No, I've been getting ready to leave. What news?"
There was a pause, and Zee could almost hear Net choosing his words carefully.
"The photos, Zee. You and Janice. They're all over social media."
For a moment, the world around Zee seemed to stop. His thoughts scrambled to catch up.
"What photos?" he asked, his voice tight.
"From the other day. Someone took pictures of you two together. They look... well, they look bad, Zee. Really bad. People are talking—saying you and Janice are back together."
Zee's grip on the phone tightened as he struggled to process what he was hearing.
"Does Nunew know?" Zee's voice was barely audible, a mix of fear and disbelief.
"That's the thing, Zee," Net replied, his tone grim. "Max saw the post last night. He's pissed. If Max saw it, there's a good chance Nunew did too. Zee, he might be thinking the worst."
The realization hit Zee like a punch to the gut. If Nunew had seen those pictures without any explanation, what would he think? Would he believe that Zee had been honest, that there was nothing between him and Janice?
Doubt clawed at Zee, and the need to find Nunew, to explain.
"I need to find him," Zee said, more to himself than to Net. "I need to talk to him before this gets worse."
"Zee, just be careful," Net cautioned. "If Nunew saw those photos, he's probably hurt and confused. Rushing in might make things worse."
Zee didn't respond. He was already out the door, his mind racing with a thousand thoughts. Each one led back to the same place—Nunew, and the fear that he had lost him.
Zee's first stop was Nunew's house, despite the message. Maybe, just maybe, Nunew would be there. But as Zee stood on the doorstep, knocking with no answer, the house remained silent, empty.
Zee's heart sank further. He called Nunew's number again, his fingers trembling as he dialed, but each call went straight to voicemail.
Panic began to rise, tightening its grip around his chest. He had to think like Nunew—where would he go if he were upset?
