Nunew emerged from the steamy bathroom, towel draped over his damp hair as he stood in front of the mirror, staring at his reflection. His thoughts were a chaotic mess.
He sighed, his shoulders slumping as he tried to make sense of the situation. His perfectly planned day had already taken a detour, and now he had no idea what to do. The cake idea was out the window, and he hadn't even had the chance to set things in motion.
What do I do now? Face him? Pretend I'm still busy?
Nunew sighed again, shaking his head. There was no point in delaying.
You need to face him eventually, Nhu.
Resolutely, he threw the towel over the back of a chair and made his way to the living room. But when he stepped out, Zee was nowhere to be found. Nunew frowned, looking around.
"Hia?" he called, his voice uncertain.
He walked further into the apartment, pausing to glance down the hallway. Then he heard a faint clinking sound coming from the kitchen.
Curious, he made his way there, only to freeze in his tracks when he saw Zee.
Zee stood at the counter, wiping it down with a rag, completely focused. The kitchen, which had been a chaotic mess from Nunew's late-night baking experiments, now looked almost spotless. Nunew's eyes widened in disbelief as he took in the sight.
"H-HIA!... what are you doing?" he asked, his voice louder than he intended.
Zee looked up, startled but quickly breaking into a soft smile.
"Oh, you're out, I was just cleaning up a bit. I saw the mess and figured I'd take care of it since I didn't have anything else to do." He said casually, as if nothing was unusual.
Nunew's cheeks burned with embarrassment.
"You didn't have to do that!" he said, rushing over and grabbing Zee's arm to stop him.
"It's fine," Zee replied, his tone calm and reassuring.
"But why are you even here so early, Hia?" Nunew pouted, his brows furrowing as he looked up at Zee, his eyes still heavy from sleep.
Zee smiled softly, stepping closer to Nunew.
"I was worried, Nhu," he said, his voice filled with tenderness.
"You didn't answer my calls yesterday, and I thought... I thought you might still be upset with me." His tone was light, but there was an underlying concern that made Nunew's heart soften.
"About that, Hia... You don't have to worry," he started, his voice quieter now, as he shifted uncomfortably.
"I was the one who should've apologized for acting like that. I know it's not your fault, but instead of talking it through, I chose to sulk and make things worse. I'm really sorry, Hia... I promise I won't do that again." He lowered his gaze, feeling the familiar pang of guilt settle deep in his chest.
Zee's expression softened, his heart aching seeing the way Nunew was beating himself up. He walked over to him, reaching out to pull him into a hug. Nunew gasped softly in surprise, his breath catching for a moment before melting into the embrace.
Zee held him close, his hands gently tracing small circles on Nunew's back.
"Nhu..." Zee murmured, his voice low and soothing.
"it's okay. I understand why you felt the way you did. You don't have to apologize. I get it. I should've noticed sooner that it was bothering you, but... I didn't. And I'm sorry for that." He paused for a moment, holding Nunew tighter, the warmth of his touch reassuring.
