" Are you sure this is a good idea?" I ask, standing by the zeta tube.
" Of course, baby D," Dick says with a blinding smile, adjusting a bag on his shoulder. " It's not like it's Metropolis."
I can't help the sigh that escapes me, " That's not what I mean, and you know it." The summer is almost over, and our family plans to make the most of it. Gramp's gone on a two-week vacation– the man needs it with this family– leaving the rest of us to our own devices. Cass and Steph decided on a cruise– apparently, neither had ever gone on one and thought to end the season on a high note. " Hot Girl Summer," they claimed. Jason went to " work a case" with Roy, but we all know that's not the real reason. Tim is going around with his team, causing their usual trouble, with an added Robin and Super Boy II– something about "inter-department training" or whatever they call hero team collaboration, turned into a week-long sleepover. Leaving only Bruce, Dick, and I at home ( Barbra's doing her own thing), and Dick wasn't having that. So, for the next three days, they're taking a long weekend vacation from Bruce. Well, that's what Dick's calling it, at least.
" He knows you're coming," Dick says, setting coordinates. I grab my bag and step through the zeta with him. Dick smiles, "Welcome to Keystone City!"
We walk towards a street, " not bad," I remark.
Dick leads us into the city and stops at the call, " Come on, slowpokes." Sitting in a car on the corner is Wally West. Flash II, and Dick's best friend.
" Hey, man," Dick says, walking over. He throws his bag in the back of the car, "Thanks for having us and the pickup."
" No problem," Walley says, waving him off, " Linda's been gone with the kids for the week. If anything, you're keeping me company."
Dick looks at me and does a come hither motion, and says to Wally, "You didn't get a chance to meet Danny at the gala, did you?"
I come over and stand awkwardly behind him. " It's nice to meet you," I say, switching my bag to my other hand. " Thank you for having me."
Wally smiles and unlocks the back. " It's no problem. Climb in, kid." The adults, if they truly count as such, catch up while I look out the window. Eye-level? It's just an average city, Vigilante? Sure, it's got its issues, but ghost-wise? It feels... weird. Amity's got its weirdness from being on ley lines, as does Gotham, not to mention all its curses– it's a poltergeist play grown– not that Gotham would let herself be defaced like that. Metropolis was its own type of weird. Bright, and surprisingly, with its invasion rate, not very haunted. Keystone thought, feels like it's... pulsating? Like its ecto-signature is growing at an abnormal rate. Strongest near the heart of the city–
" Earth to Danny," Dicks voice cuts through, " come on, we're here."
" Sorry, got distracted."
Dick chuckles, " obviously. What's got your mind in the sky?"
" Nothing," I say, grabbing our bags, " just daydreaming."
" A habit we should be wary of?" Dick asks playfully, " School starts soon~."
I groan at that, making Wally laugh as he lets us in: " Ah yes, education, the one true enemy."
" Unbeatable, the foe of the world's youth," I quip.
Wally grabs my bag, " So, there are two options, the guest room," he turns to look at Dick, " queen size, easily shareable, but, with that said, I'm no stranger to Dicks sleeping habits–"
" Rude," Dick says.
" But thankfully," Wally continues as if he hadn't spoken, " the couch is a pull-out. It's not the most comfortable, but good enough for a night or two."
