Once Mars had gotten home she walked into her room and saw Ajax lying on her bed looking up at the ceiling
"So how did your date go?" They said once they noticed that Mars had entered the room
"Wha- date?!" Mars said stuttering and flustered
"You went to Luna's house did you not?" Ajax said as they adjusted themselves to a sitting position to face Mars
"I- Wait how did you know?!" Mars said
"Where else would you have gone?" Ajax said stretching and getting up from the bed
"I! ... actually wait you're right," Mars admitted
"I know I am," Ajax said confidently with a grin on their face putting their hands behind their head "So did you speak with her?"
"Yeah" Mars replied
"How did you do that?" Ajax said still smiling, now quite interested in what Mars had to say next
"Uh well, I used a Ouija board and a radio to- wait why am I telling you this!" Mars said before stopping, realizing that telling Ajax this was probably not the best idea
Ajax chuckled "I asked you, that's why," they said with a smug grin on their face as they sat back down on the edge of the bed
"Ugh, I can't deal with you anymore today," Mars said facepalming and sitting down on the floor.
"What were the two of you talking about?" Ajax said resting their head on their hands and kicking their legs gently.
"I'm not telling you," Mars said turning away from them
Ajax sighed "Ah well I suppose that makes sense, I wouldn't trust me either..."
"So, Mars-" Ajax starts before being interrupted
Mars stands up quickly and glares at Ajax "Can you shut up for like, 5 seconds?! I don't like you, I don't want to talk to you, I don't want to see you. I hate you, you are a bad person so why don't you just be quiet."
Ajax frowns "Well... for once mars,"
"I'm speechless..."
"Okay then, shut the fuck up"
This caught Ajax off guard, they knew mars didn't care for them much but this hurt. "... As you wish, Mars" They said before turning off the light and laying down facing the wall away from Mars.
Mars laid down on her floor, she didn't disagree with a single thing she had said but she still felt bad. She didn't want to talk to Ajax, to be honest, she wanted nothing to do with them but, she still had questions
"Ajax." She begrudgingly mumbled
"You just said you didn't want to talk," Ajax said partly annoyed by her indecisiveness,
"yeah okay fine I changed my mind," Mars replied putting her head on her knees
"Well, in that case, what is it that you wanted to ask me?" Ajax said as they sat up from the bed and looked at Mars
"What are those string thingys," Mars said trying to keep as much information about her meeting with Luna as secret as possible while still getting an answer to her question
"Oh, the things that appear when you interact with things? Those are called Ties" Ajax responded, knowing just what Mars had meant
"Ties?" Mars said turning her head to Ajax slightly in confusion
"Yes, Ties. They are essentially what make things tangible, they're sort of the heart of a solid object for lack of a better word." Ajax said
"Do people have Ties to?" Mars asked as she fidgeted with the drawstrings on her hoodie...
"Yes, all solid and tangible things have Ties" Ajax replied
"Do I have one?" Mars asked hesitantly.
"Hm? Well yes but you at the moment don't, that's why you can't be interacted with, that's why no one can see you, or feel you, or hear you" Ajax answered
"Oh... that actually makes a lot of sense but wait, how can you see me?" Mars said
"That's simple, it's because I have your Tie and so, therefore, I am connected to you in a sense," Ajax said resting his head on the back of the wall and kicking up his feet onto the bedside table
"huh... interesting..." Mars said
"why are you telling me this?" She continued
"Because you asked and because, if I'm being honest, I want to gain your trust. I would also be lying if I were to say that I didn't enjoy our little chats" They said
...
"I should be going to sleep now..." Mars said
"Goodnight Mars," Ajax says, turning off the bedside lamp and lying down
Mars fell asleep just as she had been for the past few days, she stared out the window until her eyes forced themselves closed.
