I woke up extra early, to make Alex, Layla, and I breakfast. I also did some research on what to bring and expect at a pride parade. I made sure to pack water, snacks, sunblock, and stash some money for an emergency. I woke both of them up and told them to eat, I also called Bec to tell her that we were going to be heading their way soon. We decided to take my parents' vehicle because they have a third row, this way everyone can fit comfortably. We pulled up to my parents and I quickly ran inside.
"Mom? Dad?" I hollered.
"In here dear." My mom replied.
"I am in a bit of a rush, where are the keys?" I quickly asked.
"Talia, are you ever going to forgive me?" She whined.
"Mom, you judged her before even getting to know her and guess what? Linda racially profiled her. I bet that makes you happy, doesn't it?" I snarled.
"She did what?! That old bitch! Talia, I didn't judge her. I let my anger towards her father blur my judgment. For that I am sorry." She stated.
"Well thank you for admitting that, now I really have to get going." I explained.
I ran out and signaled them to bring all the items to the car. We loaded in and headed over to get Bec and Jason. Once they loaded in, we began our drive. Well what I mean is Alex began the drive. If I have someone who is willing to drive other than me, I will take it. The drive was filled with laughter and jokes, making the drive seem so short. Bec had found a few stores to go shopping at. Alex pulled up to the first store and we all flooded out of the vehicle.
"So what kind of outfit are you looking for?" Jason asked Layla.
"Something appropriate but cute." I joked.
"I honestly don't know. When I see something, I will know that is what I want." Layla replied.
We walked into the store and went our separate ways. Alex found a tee with the Pride flag on the front and rainbow shorts or maybe they were swim trunks, I couldn't tell you. I found a cute body con Pride dress and bows for my hair. Jason went with just a tee that read "One Tribe, One Pride" with a pride flag and Bec picked out a cute little flowy dress that was covered in rainbows. We grabbed a few face tats, signs, and other things we thought we needed. Once we all checked out and changed, we went to find somewhere to get drinks and eat.
"So are you excited?" I asked Layla.
"If I'm being honest, I am a little nervous." She replied.
"Nervous? Why?" I questioned.
"What if someone doesn't think I belong there?" Layla questioned.
"Layla, it doesn't matter if you are gay, bi-sexual, trans, or anything else. It's the fact that there are people out here supporting the LGBTQ." I reassured her.
Once we finished eating we got back into the vehicle and found our way to the parade. It was way bigger than I thought. I know they show us how they look online, but in person definitely tops that. The energy was outstanding and everyone there was so nice. I am still trying to get the hang of pronouns but they were so nice about correcting me. I kind of felt like an idiot, but they definitely made me feel better about messing it up.
"Are you guys just supporters or are one of you a LGBTQ family member?" A girl asked us.
"Umm, I recently just came out as bi-sexual. They are all here to support me and this community." Layla quietly answered.
"Well, would you like to come with me and meet my friends?" The girl asked Layla.
"Talia, is that okay? You can stay nearby." She stated.
