"Where am I?" The blonde girl asked as she walked around the desolate landscape. She had to be dreaming, there was no way this was a real place. The sky was deep red and if she didn't know better, she would have said it was blood. The ground was nothing but dust and there seemed to be nothing around for miles. It was empty. Behind her, she could hear flapping, it was like wings, but when she turned around there was nothing there. "You're losing it, Beth," she muttered.

Slowly, Beth began to walk through the landscape, watching out for stones that seemed to litter the ground.  No matter where she walked, the sight never changed. As she was watching the ground, she caught a glimpse of what she was wearing. She was still in her fair pyjamas from that night and her hair was still tied back into a plait that ran down the length of her back. There was no way this is real. It has to be a dream. she thought.

There was no breeze meaning that the temperature rose quickly and Beth noticed that her clothes were beginning to stick to her. This was odd as the sky was free of sunlight and there was no other way for the temperature to be rising as fast was it was. The dust rose up around her causing her to cough as she breathed some of it in. It tasted bitter, almost like blood. She paused and took one quick glance around her, nothing had changed.

Beth blinked the dust from her eyes, but as she did so, the scene changed. She was no longer stood on a bare, dust-ridden road. She was in a building. It too glowed red, but it was free of dust and the temperature seemed to be considerably cooler to that outside. Upon a platform, she saw two thrones, one was considerably smaller than the other, but nevertheless, it was odd. The thrones had a gold glow to them that reflected off the red walls and made them shine. The room itself was circular with no obvious sign of a door nor any other means of escape.

She knew that odd things happened in the life of a Shadowhunter, but Beth was unaware of this place ever appearing in a History book. Unless it was thought up in her dream state, there was no other way a place like this could exist. She remembered what her Uncle had told her when she first began training all those years ago. He mentioned that some things in a Shadowhunters life should not be kept secret. Having weird dreams was one of those things.

This wasn't the first time Beth had had a dream like this. It wasn't uncommon for her to have dreams in odd places, places no one had ever heard of before. But she thought this was different. None of the dreams where ever just that. They had a meaning to them, and she was certain this one did too. Only she didn't know it.

She approached the platform and ran her hands along the intricately patterned armrest. Her hand bumped over all the ridges and slid through the groves that laced the chair. One was clearly meant for a female, due to its small and delicate nature. That could only mean one thing, the other had clearly been made for a male. The second chair was a lot bigger and the designs were less delicate.

Despite never seeing these chairs before, Beth noticed the Runes that were placed upon them. They were not ordinary runes from The Gray Book. They looked worse, more sinister. The work of a Shadowhunter gone rogue. It wasn't uncommon for her to hear of Shadowhunters who had turned against the Clave and all they stood for. In fact, it was happening a lot more than it was a few years ago. Beth had heard stories of Valentine Morgenstern and his son Jonathan, she knew what they did, or try to do. Her Uncle had fought in both battles in Alicante and had told her of what he had witnessed. He had also fought on Valentines ship and had watched it be torn apart by a simple rune.

"Hello, Beth," a voice behind her said. Beth spun on her heels and came face to face with a white haired boy, no older than seventeen.

"I know you," Beth began, "you're Jonathan, the kid who tried to destroy the Clave."
