Despite asking the beast maid who brought her meals every time, the only parrot-like response she received was that His Grace the Duke was away on urgent business. Elysia began to grow anxious.

“This treatment is too much. He told me not to think about meeting other beasts, but I never thought I would be confined like this.”

Even if she wanted to go outside and breathe fresh air, she couldn’t roam freely because, as Malcolm had said, she hadn’t received ‘guest permission’ from the owner of the mansion. If she did, she would likely be torn apart by the beastmen guards as Malcolm had warned.

No matter how delicious the food provided by the duke’s servants was, how splendid the mansion’s scenery was, and how free she was from the Baron’s threats, Elysia realized she couldn’t let this situation continue any longer.

“At least, I should find Malcolm and ask if I can go out to send a letter to Celian.”

Watching the sun begin to set outside the window, Elysia finally made up her mind after countless deliberations. She decided to find the man herself.

Creak. The firmly closed door opened to reveal the cold corridors of the duke’s mansion.

Elysia began moving, roughly gauging the mansion’s layout, which she had learned by coaxing the grumpy beastmaid who had brought her meals last time.

But Elysia overlooked one thing: this mansion was the residence of the beast lion duke. Naturally, all the servants working there were predator beasts with excellent night vision.

“The hallway is too dark. It’s barely evening, and I can’t see an inch ahead.”

As an ordinary human without night vision, Elysia had no choice but to fumble her way down the walls, relying on the faint evening glow streaming through the thick curtains.

At some point, the faint sound of a beast’s cry began to approach. It was the same desperate and painful roar she had heard day and night for the past three days. Goosebumps rose on Elysia’s arms.

She felt the surrounding air grow colder. A faint light was seeping out from a distance.

“What is that sound? Have I already reached the first floor? I’ve come down quite a bit….”

The sun had set, and the only thing Elysia could rely on was the light from a torch a few dozen steps ahead. The sound was coming from that very place.

“This sound….”

Having had a similar experience, Elysia immediately recognized what was happening. Holding her breath, she approached the iron bars of a place that looked like an underground prison labeled ‘Infirmary.’ Soon, a dreadful scene came into view.

In the middle of a prison-like room, a beast tied with chains was breathing heavily.

“That’s….”

Elysia gasped.

“A berserk bear beastman. The foam at the mouth, the self-inflicted wounds. The almost invisible pupils with only the whites showing are clear symptoms of the disease.”

She recognized the berserk condition immediately. She had encountered a similar beastman before.

“Baron had asked me to make medicine for such a patient. That patient looked exactly like this.”

Despite understanding the helplessness of the situation, Elysia couldn’t help but frown at the prisoner-like conditions of the patient.

At that moment, heavy footsteps were heard.
