The next day, Jaeyun got ready for school, still feeling anxious about forgetting his homework. He had been so caught up in thinking about Heeseung and his own frustrations that he had completely spaced out on doing his assignment.

As he walked into class, Jaeyun's heart sank. He knew he was in trouble. The teacher, Mrs. Kim, was already standing at the front of the room, a stern look on her face.

"Alright, class. Let's get started. Please take out your homework and let's review," Mrs. Kim said, her eyes scanning the room.

Jaeyun's heart raced as he realized he had nothing to show. He tried to come up with an excuse, but before he could even speak, Mrs. Kim had already spotted him.

"Jaeyun, where is your homework?" she asked, her voice firm but surprised. This was the first time Jaeyun had ever forgotten his homework.

Jaeyun hesitated, feeling his face heat up. "I-I forgot, Mrs. Kim. I'm sorry."

The class fell silent, with all eyes on Jaeyun. Heeseung, sitting across from him, looked shocked and concerned.

Mrs. Kim sighed. "Jaeyun, this is unacceptable. You're one of my best students. What's going on?"

Jaeyun shrugged, feeling embarrassed. "I just forgot, Mrs. Kim. It won't happen again."

But Mrs. Kim was not convinced. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to call your mother, Jaeyun. This is not like you at all."

Jaeyun's eyes widened in horror as Mrs. Kim pulled out her phone and dialed his mother's number. He knew he was in for a world of trouble.

Mrs. Kim, Jaeyun's teacher, called Jaeyun's mother into the classroom, looking concerned. "Mrs. jiyeon, thank you for coming in today. I wanted to discuss Jaeyun's recent behavior."

Jaeyun's mother, still looking glamorous from the previous night's party, smiled sweetly although it's a fake smile. "Of course, Mrs. Kim. What seems to be the problem?"

Mrs. Kim hesitated. "Well, Jaeyun forgot his homework for the first time ever. And when I spoke to him about it, he seemed... distant. Unconcerned."

Jaeyun's mother waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, that's just Jaeyun being Jaeyun. He's always been a bit... forgetful."

Mrs. Kim frowned. "I've never seen him like this before. And when I asked him what was wrong, he just shrugged it off. I'm worried that something might be going on at home."

Jaeyun's mother laughed. "Oh, Mrs. Kim, you're being too sensitive. Jaeyun's just fine. He's just going through a phase."

Mrs. Kim looked unconvinced. "I hope so, Mrs. jiyeon. But I still think we should keep an eye on him. And maybe you could speak to him about his responsibilities?"

Jaeyun's mother smiled again, but this time it was tinged with annoyance. "Of course, Mrs. Kim. I'll take care of it."

As the conversation ended and Jaeyun's mother left the classroom, Mrs. Kim couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. And Jaeyun, waiting anxiously outside, knew that he was in for a world of trouble.

Jaeyun's mother harshly grabbed his hand, her grip like a vice, and dragged him out of the school towards their car. Heeseung and their friends watched in concern as Jaeyun was pulled away, his eyes wide with fear.

Upon reaching home, Jaeyun's mother flung him into the living room, her anger boiling over. "Are you an idiot or what?!" she shouted, her voice echoing off the walls. "Why can't you do one thing properly? Tell me, why didn't you do your homework? Why?!"

Jaeyun cowered, his eyes fixed on his mother's furious face. "I-I forgot," he stammered, trying to explain.

But his mother wouldn't listen. "Forgot?!" she screamed, her hand flying up to slap him. The ring on her finger bit into Jaeyun's cheek, and he felt a searing pain as blood began to trickle down his face.

Jaeyun flinched, tears springing to his eyes. His mother's grip on his arm tightened, her nails digging deep. "You're so useless, Jaeyun!" she spat, her words venomous. "I wasn't even home, and you're already slacking off? What would happen if I didn't push you all the time?"

Jaeyun's mother continued to berate him, her words cutting deep. She dragged him upstairs, locked him in his room, and declared, "You're not eating until you learn to follow rules! This is your punishment!"

Jaeyun collapsed onto his bed, silent tears streaming down his face. He felt so trapped, so alone. All he wanted was to be happy, to be free from his mother's suffocating grip. Was that too much to ask?

As he lay there, Jaeyun's thoughts turned to Heeseung, to his friends, to the life he wished he had. He wondered if anyone would ever understand him, ever save him from this living hell.

The sound of his mother's footsteps faded away, leaving Jaeyun to his despair. He slowly got up, walked to the washroom, and gazed at his reflection. The bruise on his cheek throbbed, a painful reminder of his mother's wrath.

Jaeyun's eyes welled up with tears again as he whispered to himself, "Why can't she just love me for who I am?"
