Bridget glanced at the clock as she prepared for bed. It was already 1 a.m., and exhaustion weighed heavily on her. She carefully brushed through her pink curls, then pulled her soft comforter up to her chin. Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, a faint, rhythmic tapping interrupted the quietness of her room.
Her curiosity piqued, she slipped out of bed and walked over to the window. To her surprise, she saw James perched on the window sill, his breath forming small clouds in the chilly night air.
"James? What on earth are you doing here?" she asked, her voice a mix of surprise and concern.
James shifted slightly, his face illuminated by the moonlight. "Could you let me in? It's a bit cold out here," he said, his voice muffled by the glass separating them.
"Oh- sorry! I'll open the window now,"
Bridget quickly slid open the window, and James, with a fluid motion, climbed into the room. He brushed off the dust from his white button-up and stepped inside, his breath still visible in the cool air of the room.
"Thanks," he said, giving Bridget a grateful smile. His cheeks were slightly tinted pink from the cold.
Bridget closed the window and turned to face him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "So, what brings you here at this hour? Everything okay, pretty boy?" Batting her eyelashes and wearing a dreamy expression on her face, she remembered that she had an act to carry out.
James noticed the change in demeanour immediately. "You can drop the act, princess. It seems that you're quite the actress." Bridget's cheeks flushed when she found out that she'd been caught.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" She walked away from him to hide her blush.
James chuckled a little and smiled, "It's okay. I was recently enlightened that Wonderlanders aren't affected by love spells." He watched as she turned around slowly to face him. "Why'd you do it?" He asked with a mixture of astonishment and admiration.
Bridget turned back to face James, her cheeks still tinged with pink. She looked down at her feet, trying to collect her thoughts. "I didn't mean to get caught up in all this. I just saw an opportunity to help, and I went with it."
James took a step closer, his gaze steady. "Help with what? I mean, I get that you were trying to fix things with me and Hilde, but it's clear there was more to it. Why go through all that trouble?"
Bridget sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. "I saw how horrible she'd been treating you, and I knew you didn't have the guts to break up with her so I took matters into my own hands. I only wanted to help you realise how much damage she was causing, not for her to humiliate you in public with that ultimatum. I'm really sorry,"
James nodded, his eyes searching hers for understanding. "You have nothing to be sorry for. If anything I should be thank you," She smiled in relief after hearing his words.
Bridget's eyes lit up with a hopeful glimmer as she clasped her hands together. "Maybe you could help me pass a message to your friends? I want to apologize for everything I've done. I'll even make them more cupcakes! No strawberries this time, I promise." Her expression was earnest, her eyes wide with regret and hope.
James studied her for a moment, clearly touched by her sincerity. He couldn't help but admire her optimism. "I'm not even sure if I'm still part of their group," he admitted, his tone tinged with a hint of melancholy. "I mean, Morgie and I still share a dorm. Plus, Mali and I will always be friends. As for Hades...well, he's just Hades." He sighed and began to pace around the room, looking lost in thought. "Uliana and Hilde, though, I'm done with them.
Bridget's face fell at the realisation. "I didn't mean to get you kicked out of your group! Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, Hook!"
James stopped pacing and turned to her, a gentle smile on his face. "You know, you really don't need to keep apologizing for things that aren't your fault. It's not all on you. Don't worry about it." His words seemed to ease the tension in Bridget's shoulders, and she let out a relieved sigh.
"And please, call me James." She muttered a small 'okay!' and squealed in her mind.
"Now that I'm not caught up with Uliana's dumb plans, guess I'll start attending class more often. Got nothing better to do." Bridget's eyes lightened up with joy as he said that.
"Really? If you need help I can always tutor you!" She kindly offered.
Just as he was about to decline the offer, he realised that he kind of needed the help. And he wasn't going to turn down an offer to spend more time with Bridget. She exuded so much peace and happiness that was contagious.
"I just might take you up on that offer,"

The next day, Hook was at the courtyard chatting to his new friend, Rapunzel. They became fast friends after the whole 'magic problem solving' situation, and they enjoyed the sarcastic and friendly banter between them.
"So, what are you doing later?" Rapunzel asked with a mischievous glint in her eye. "Wanna watch people walk past us and judge their poor taste in outfits?" She suggested an offer that he almost couldn't resist. But Hook then remembered that he'd promised to meet Bridget after school to study.
"As tempting as that sounds, I can't. Bridget's going to tutor me after school," Hook replied.
Rapunzel's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Oh really? Bridget, huh?" Her expression shifted into an exaggerated smirk as she began to wink repeatedly, her playful demeanor in full swing.
Hook rolled his eyes, trying to hide his amusement. "Shut up."
"What happened to Mr. 'I don't care about my studies!'" She laughed at his face, mocking his deep British accent as she continued teasing him "'You think I care about school? I'm Captain Hook, of course I don't! School is ridiculous and I'll never ask for any help academically!'"
"Very funny," Hook replied, shaking his head as he began to walk away, clearly done with the banter.
Rapunzel's laughter followed him. "Look at you now, all keen on studying because a certain beautiful, kind-hearted, and gorgeous pink-haired princess is offering to help!" Her voice grew louder, teasingly echoing through the courtyard; causing some students to turn their heads at the noise level.
As Hook quickened his pace, he couldn't help but let a smile slip through. He raised a playful but not-so-nice finger at her as he walked off, causing the girl to laugh even more. Before he could fully disappear, she shouted one last comment to really annoy him.
"Have fun on your date!"
...
"It's not a bloody date!"
