a few minutes before the announcement...
The VKs were ready, adrenaline pumping as they prepared for the most crucial part of their revenge; the blood-drenching. Hilde gave a subtle nod to Uliana and Cruella, signaling that it was time. The trio double-checked everything with Morgie, who was practically shaking with excitement.
"Remember, if anything goes wrong, give the signal," Uliana warned, her voice low but firm as she placed a hand on Morgie's shoulder.
Morgie nodded furiously. "Got it. I'll be fine, don't worry. I'm going to be crowned King, remember? I'll play it so cool," he assured them, though his jittery demeanour betrayed his nerves.
Hilde smirked, satisfied with his eagerness. "Just stick to the plan."
With those parting words, the trio slipped backstage, their trap set and ready, confident that tonight would end with their twisted triumph. The ropes and buckets were perfectly in place, all they needed was the signal and the crowning.
Meanwhile, in the middle of the ballroom, Bridget wrapped her arm around Hook's jacket, lost in the excitement of the evening. Her hand brushed against something unfamiliar in his pocket, making her frown. She tilted her head in confusion, her fingers feeling the distinct shape of something small and cylindrical.
"What's that?" she asked curiously, pulling her hand back to reveal the bedazzled scarlet red lipstick, ingrained with the initial she despised the most.
Her face dropped as she pulled out Hilde's red lipstick. James' eyes widened in panic.
"Bridget, wait, I can explain-"
But Bridget's expression had already hardened. Without a word, she grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the ballroom, through the bustling crowd, and into the dark, quiet gardens. The scene left a stunned James trailing behind her as the ballroom continued to pulse with music and anticipation, unaware of the drama unfolding just outside in the gardens.
Back in the ballroom, as the VKs lurked backstage ready to spring their trap, Rapunzel caught Red's gaze. A knowing look passed between them. They'd made sure that someone else would be crowned Castlecoming Queen. It wasn't that hard, considering Rapunzel was on the school board.
The talking turned to hush whispers as everyone glanced to Merlin on the stage. The time had come.
"And now, for the crowning of this year's Castlecoming King and Queen," Merlin's voice boomed through the ballroom. The crowd hushed in anticipation, their eyes glued to the stage.
"The King... Morgie!"
The applause was enthusiastic, but a bit confused. Morgie beamed as he climbed the steps to the stage, absolutely buzzing with pride.
"And the Queen..." Merlin's eyes scanned the parchment before him.
"Red!"
The ballroom erupted into a mix of gasps and cheers. Her friends beamed with pride and applauded her win. She smiled at Rapunzel, a silent 'thank you' for everything she'd done her her. Rapunzel gave a bittersweet smile, closing off a whole chapter of her life.
Morgie, seemingly in his own world, was too prideful to notice that Red had climbed onto stage instead of the princess of Wonderland. Well- it was the wrong princess of Wonderland.
