Hook sprinted through the halls of Merlin Academy, his mind buzzing with the anticipation of meeting Bridget at the library. As he reached his dorm room, he skidded to a halt, nearly crashing into the doorframe. With a hasty swipe of his hand, he fumbled to unlock the door, muttering under his breath, "Why is it always the last class that feels like it drags on forever?"
Inside, Hook quickly grabbed his books from his desk, shoving them into his bag with practiced efficiency. His thoughts flickered back to the bedazzled lipstick he'd found earlier, its silver glinting mockingly. He had yet to confront Hilde about it, but for now, his focus was on Bridget and their upcoming study session.
As he headed out of his dorm, Hook passed a group of students chatting excitedly about Castlecoming, which was in two days. He ignored them, his pace quickening as he made his way to the library. He couldn't shake the memory of their earlier alchemy class, the odd sensation that had lingered between him and Bridget.
Once he arrived at the library, he spotted Bridget already there, her nose buried in a stack of books. She looked up and greeted him with a warm, slightly nervous, smile.
"Hey there," Hook said, slipping into the seat across from her. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."
Bridget looked relieved to see him. "No worries, James. I actually just got here a few minutes ago. I was starting to think you might have forgotten."
"Of course not,"
Bridget smiles as she opened her textbook and gestured to the notes in front of her. "So, what do you want to do first? I was thinking we could go over the potion we brewed in alchemy class."
"Sounds good to me," Hook replied, pulling out his own scribbled-on notes and looking at them with a slightly puzzled expression. "I've got to admit, I'm still a bit lost with some of the details."
Bridget chuckled, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "No worries, that's what I'm here for. Let's start with the basics."
"Amortentia is quite a fascinating concoction. It's known for its ability to show us what we desire most. The scent it produces is different for everyone, based on personal preferences and experiences." Bridget paused to make sure that Hook was following, "You got that, right?"
Hook nodded slowly, "Interesting," He said, leaning forward and studying the notes. "So, that's why it smelled different for both of us?"
"Exactly," Bridget replied, nodding. "It's all about what we find most alluring. For you, it was vanilla and other sweet things. For me, it was more of a minty, woody kinda smell."
Hook raised an eyebrow. "And you're not tempted to ask me why?"
Bridget gave him a playful smile. "Not unless you're planning on telling me more about why those scents were so appealing to you."
Bridget's eyes sparkled as she continued, "It's likely those scents were associated with positive memories or feelings. Maybe you were happiest when you smelled those scents,"
Hook nodded in understanding. "Didn't know you enjoyed baking class so much. You don't strike me as a baker," Bridget giggled as she spoke.
"Well, maybe I am. Who knows? Maybe I'll be even better than you, lass." Hook raised his eyebrows as Bridget laughed at the challenge.
As Bridget guided Hook through the nuances of the potion, their conversation grew more relaxed and engaging. Hook found himself enjoying the tutoring session more than he had anticipated, appreciating Bridget's patience and clear explanations. The initial awkwardness from their earlier classes seemed to dissolve, replaced by a sense of camaraderie.
Hook and Bridget settled into their study session, diving into the complexities of Amortentia first. As the conversation flowed smoothly, Bridget decided to cover more ground, suggesting they move on to other subjects.
"Alright, let's move on to another subject." Bridget said, closing the alchemy textbook. "We'll cover Defence Against the Dark Arts next. It's one of those subjects that's pretty crucial, especially with all the pirates roaming around the school." A playful glimmer ignited in her eyes as he laughed at her joke.
"Did you not hear? A pirate going by the name of Captain Hook is freely roaming around the school! Rumour has it that he's really really villainous," She widened her eyes to dramatise her words. Hook smirked slightly and decided to play along with her bit.
"Oh dear, I must learn how to defend myself from him. Never know when I might cross him in the hallways," He spoke with sarcasm lacing his tone as she laughed.
"Okay, okay, let's start."
"Today's lesson is about protective charms and counter-spells. These are essential for any villain or hero. You'll want to know how to shield yourself from curses and hexes."
"Sounds like a plan," Hook said, his interest piqued. "I've definitely run into my fair share of curses."
Bridget began explaining the different protective spells, demonstrating their effects with a few practiced wand movements. Hook watched intently, absorbing the information.
"So, which spell do you think would be most useful for a villain like me?" Hook asked, a teasing tone in his voice.
Bridget grinned. "Well, for someone with such a big reputation, you might want to focus on shielding charms. They're great for deflecting curses and keeping you safe in tight situations."
"Deflecting curses, aye? Sounds like I'd need that when I'm facing off against my own plans," Hook joked.
As they practiced, Hook found himself enjoying the process more than he had expected. Bridget's guidance was clear and encouraging, and her enthusiasm for the subject was infectious.
"Alright, let's move on to our last subject for today; history," Bridget said, pulling out their history notes. "We can cover some key events and figures of Merlin Academy. It's not as thrilling as Defence Against the Dark Arts, but it's important."
"History?" Hook said with a groan. "You really know how to kill the mood."
"Well, you have to know a little bit of history," Bridget said with a grin. "Besides, I think you might find it more interesting than you expect."
They spent the next hour going over historical events and key figures, with Bridget explaining the significance of various moments in the Academy's past. Hook, while initially disinterested, found himself drawn into the subject, especially with Bridget's engaging explanations and occasional humorous commentary.
As the library's lights dimmed to signal the end of their study session, Hook stretched and yawned. "Well, I've got to say, I didn't expect to enjoy studying this much."
"See? I told you it wouldn't be so bad!" Bridget giggled as she filed her loose notes.
"Thanks for being such a great tutor, Bridget. I owe you one."
"Anytime," Bridget said, gathering her things. "See you tomorrow, James."
