The sun had barely risen, casting a soft glow through the windows, and the house was already buzzing with excitement—and a hint of nervous energy. It was Issy's first day of school, and Ariel had spent the entire week planning for this day as if it were a military operation.

Ariel: (checking a detailed list she had made the night before) "Okay, lunchbox—packed, water bottle—check, extra clothes—check, hairbrush—check, and her favorite snack—got it!"

Jack: (leaning against the kitchen counter, smirking) "Ariel, it's just kindergarten. You're packing like she's going on a month-long expedition."

Ariel: (frowning as she tightens Issy's shoes) "It's her first day, Jack! Everything has to be perfect. She needs to make a good impression!"

Issy, meanwhile, was sitting on the floor with her backpack, happily playing with a stuffed toy, completely unaware of the whirlwind of planning her mother was caught up in.

Jack: (teasingly) "I'm sure they won't judge her based on her snack choice."

Ariel shot Jack a look, half-amused but mostly stressed.

Ariel: "You don't understand! It's her first day. What if she doesn't make friends? What if the teachers don't like her? What if—"

Jack: (laughing, cutting her off) "Ariel, relax. Issy's going to be fine. She's probably more ready for this than we are."

As if on cue, Issy stood up, slinging her backpack over her shoulder, looking every bit the part of a kindergartener ready to take on the world.

Issy: (proudly) "Mommy, Daddy, I'm ready!"

Ariel's heart melted at the sight, but just as she was about to respond, Issy started wobbling from the weight of her oversized backpack and promptly tumbled onto her bottom.

Ariel: (laughing despite herself) "Okay, maybe the backpack is a little big."

Jack: (smirking as he helped Issy back up) "See? Everything doesn't need to be perfect, Ariel."

The trio made their way to the car, and the drive to school was filled with Ariel rattling off last-minute advice to Issy, while Jack nodded along with exaggerated enthusiasm.

When they arrived at the school, Ariel's meticulously laid-out plans quickly began to unravel.

Ariel: (panicked) "Wait, where's her lunchbox? I had it packed, I swear!"

Jack: (pointing to the kitchen counter at home in his mind) "Pretty sure it's still sitting on the counter."

Ariel groaned, running her hands through her hair.

Ariel: "We're already late! Jack, you were supposed to double-check!"

Jack: (laughing) "I thought you had a list for everything!"

As they approached the school entrance, Issy bounced along between them, completely unfazed by the chaos. Ariel, on the other hand, was a bundle of nerves.

Inside the classroom, a sea of little kids and their parents were settling in. Issy clung to Ariel's leg at first, suddenly shy, her earlier confidence fading.

Ariel: (kneeling down to Issy's level, trying to stay calm) "It's going to be okay, sweetheart. You're going to make so many friends."

Issy looked up, wide-eyed but uncertain.

Jack: (crouching next to Ariel, winking at Issy) "Remember, Issy. You're braver than a superhero. You got this."

Issy giggled at her dad's words, her nerves fading away. Slowly, she let go of Ariel's leg, took a deep breath, and walked into the room.

Ariel watched with her heart pounding, tears welling up in her eyes as Issy found a seat and started talking to another little girl.

Ariel: (sniffing) "She's growing up so fast."

Jack: (grinning, wrapping an arm around her) "She'll be fine, Ariel. You, on the other hand..."

Ariel: (swatting him playfully) "I'm fine! I just want her to be happy."

As they turned to leave, Issy called out to them from across the room.

Issy: (waving excitedly) "Bye, Mommy! Bye, Daddy!"

Jack: (grinning proudly) "See? Told you she's got this."

Ariel wiped away a tear, her heart swelling with pride. As they walked back to the car, she sighed with a mix of relief and exhaustion.

Ariel: (finally relaxing) "Okay, maybe I was a little over-prepared."

Jack: (laughing) "A little?"

They both chuckled, walking hand in hand, knowing that even though the day hadn't gone according to Ariel's plan, everything had turned out just right in the end.

But, of course, they knew there were plenty more chaotic firsts still ahead.
