It was another one of those cozy family evenings. Jack, Ariel, and Issy sat together in the living room, enjoying some much-needed downtime. Issy was flipping through a children's book when she suddenly turned to her parents with a question that sent them both down memory lane.

Issy: (tilting her head curiously) "Mommy, Daddy, when did I start walking?"

Jack and Ariel exchanged glances. The question seemed simple enough, but the moment it left Issy's mouth, they both realized they had a hard time pinpointing it.

Jack: (scratching his head, looking thoughtful) "Walking? Hmm, that's a good one, Iss. Let's see..."

Ariel: (frowning slightly as she tried to recall) "Was it... around six months? I mean, you were always ahead of the curve, so maybe?"

Issy: (giggling and kicking her feet) "Six months? That's when babies crawl, Mommy!"

Jack: (grinning at Issy's response) "Hey, don't underestimate yourself, kid. You've always been in a hurry to grow up."

The two parents fell into a moment of nostalgic silence as they each attempted to recall the exact day their little girl had taken her first steps.

Ariel: (smiling softly as she remembered the early days) "I think it might've been when you were around 10 months. Remember, Jack? We were just in the living room, like we are now, and Issy tried to stand up, but kept falling."

Jack: (laughing and nodding) "Oh yeah! And you were so determined, Iss. I remember cheering you on like you were about to run a marathon."

Flashback to Issy's first steps:

Ariel had spent weeks trying to encourage Issy to walk. She would hold her little hands and walk her around the house. But Issy, determined to do things in her own time, refused to take her first steps without turning it into an event.

One afternoon, Jack and Ariel were lounging around after chasing Issy all morning. Ariel decided to step away for a minute, and Jack, always the laid-back dad, grabbed a snack from the kitchen.

Jack: (with a mouthful of chips, talking to baby Issy) "You're just gonna walk when you're ready, huh, kiddo? No rush."

Issy sat on the floor, staring at her dad, clearly plotting something in her tiny baby mind. She gripped the edge of the coffee table and hoisted herself up on wobbly legs.

Issy: (grinning toothlessly) "Babababa..."

Jack: (glancing over his shoulder) "Whoa, hey there! You're up!"

Suddenly, as if she'd been training for weeks, Issy took one shaky step forward. Then another. And just as she was about to take the third, she wobbled and plopped down on her diapered bottom.

Jack: (yelling excitedly, dropping his snack) "Ariel! You won't believe this!"

Ariel came rushing back into the room, only to find Issy sitting innocently on the floor, giggling at her dad's excitement.

Ariel: (wide-eyed, looking at Jack) "What? What happened?"

Jack: (grinning from ear to ear) "She walked! Our little Issy just took her first steps, and I saw it!"

Ariel: (disappointed but laughing) "Of course, you did! I miss it by a second, and she walks for you."

Back in the present:

Issy sat wide-eyed as her parents recounted the story, clearly amused at how excited they were.

Issy: (giggling) "So Daddy saw my first steps, but Mommy didn't?"

Ariel: (mock-pouting, shaking her head) "Nope, I missed it. Your dad stole that moment from me."

Jack: (laughing) "Hey, I didn't steal anything! You just happened to walk away at the wrong time."

Ariel: (teasing) "Yeah, and you just happened to be shoving chips in your mouth when our daughter decided to walk for the first time."

Issy burst out laughing at the mental image of her dad with a mouthful of chips, trying to cheer her on.

Issy: (smiling proudly) "Well, at least I walked!"

Ariel: (grinning at Issy) "You sure did, baby. And from that moment on, you didn't stop moving."

Jack: (smirking at Ariel) "And she's still keeping us on our toes."

The memory of Issy's first steps, along with the light-hearted teasing between Jack and Ariel, made the moment even more special. They realized that even though they couldn't remember the exact timing perfectly, the joy of seeing their little girl grow and hit milestones like walking was etched into their hearts forever.

Issy: (hugging both her parents) "I love you, Mommy and Daddy."

Jack: (smiling warmly) "We love you too, Iss."

Ariel: (kissing Issy's forehead) "You're our little star, always moving forward."

And with that, they settled back into their cozy evening, grateful for the sweet (and funny) memories they'd made as a family.
