CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Gwayne
King's Landing (Tourney Field)
I walk out of my tent after hearing the trumpets sound to start the tourney for Luke. I'd been in a shockingly good mood today. My back is still a little sore but I feel confident. I know that giving Alana the red rose crown and naming her my queen of love and beauty will be the highlight of my day.
And the highlight of my life.
As soon as I crown her and win the tourney for her my plan is to properly propose to her. Lord Cregan Stark was right when he told me that I have a great woman and I need to treat her better. I need to let her know that not only do I love her but I am in love with her.
I see the clouds in the sky cover the sun and then I look to my right and make my way past a few tents. Only to see the backside of Alana holding a small child in her arms. I know whos' child that is... And I see him there.
Looming over her should and looking right into my soul.
My heart falls to the floor and my stomach does a flip and follows right after it. Cregan looks as though he's seen a ghost and whatever he had been trying to say he stops. He silences himself and Alana turns around and looks at me like I'd ruined her conversation.
But I won't let this ruin my day. Cregan kisses his son on the head and gives Alana a nod as I walk closer. He shakes my hand and wishes me good fortune while on the field. I wish him the same and he takes off.
A sound of thunder rumbles but no rain. I look at Alana who seems a little displaced. I cock my head to the side and see her cheeks are flushes. She chews her bottom lip and I can tell she must be nervous today, if she's been chewing her lip like that all morning it explains why her lips are so swollen.
"Are you on babysitting duty?" I say playfully to hopefully lift her spirit. This brings a smile to her face but soon brings a frown to mine.
"My Mama!" The little boy says as she hugs onto her. "My Mama..."
Alana swallows. "He doesn't know any differently."
I want to be upset but Daeron is the same way when it comes to me. He has been telling everyone that his father is competing the tourney. He's not wrong. Daemon is competing he just doesn't know that Daemon is his father.
I nod and give a forced smile quickly to the boy. "Your Mama is going to be my wife soon."
The little boy shakes his head. "No. She's mine!"
Alana feigns shock playfully. "Oh, you best watch out Ser Gwayne. Little Lord Rickon is your biggest competition now."
I narrow my eyes and hum slightly. "He doesn't repeat things, does he?"
She shakes her head. "No, not really. Not ever actually. He's too young."
"Good." I tell her. "Because I need to tell you what I saw a few weeks ago."
"Gwayne is now really the time?"
The trumpet sounds again. "Yes."
"You're about to compete. Are you sure you really want to divulge into a deep conversation?"
I nod. "Alana it'll be quick because I need to get this off my chest because I have to go again Cregan and Daemon. Possibly Criston Cole too. If I'm injured or hit my fucking head again I want to be certain that I'm in my right mind when I tell you what I'd seen."
